they run a 3-4 so yeaa their DE's will be bigger

Not bashing, but I remember people bashing Mingo when he first came in. Saying he would never play DE and what not. Like others said before different type of defensive front.

Just for the sake of argument...

Frank Herron and LaCouture are both 6'5", 245 and 290 pounds, respectively.

That's not far off the dimensions of Mingo and Montgomery.

Yes, I know LaCouture is recruited as a tackle, but we all know how rock solid those position assignments are...

I'm satisfied. Just sayin'.

Can be said many ways positive and negative, but,
Those 6'4" 300lb de's did a good job containing johnny football like ours did.

Chavis has always preferred speed over size for some of the DE's and LB's even going back to Tenn
They still have size though

Bama wants size in DE and LB

Mingo was listed as 205 lbs coming out of high school. A good redshirt year and he put on some muscle.
