His first major decision was firing Spags, and this Ryan thing is far from done. I've seen someone on twitter suggest Payton is sniffing out a rat again.

Wouldn't surprise me. Throwing out cheese bites like a Ryan hire just to frick with someone. All this did was create a 7 page vag bleed here.

If he thinks this is the right move then its the right move. We don't need this defense to be top 10, we just need it to actually stop the opposing offense 50% of the time. Rob Ryan can do that, easily.

You can't tell me that Sean, Mickey, and Joe are sitting in the meeting room saying, "Yeah, we could try and find someone that can turn our defense around and be top 10, but nah, someone who will keep us middle of the road is fine."
I understand what you're saying, but you don't hire a new coach (or anyone for that matter) and hope that they can keep you mediocre. You hope for and expect the best.

The only reason a Ryan hire would make sense to me is that he runs mostly man coverage.

If true (Jay Glazer just said it probably is), I'm pretty happy with the hire.
Ryan was my second choice behind RC. He's aggressive. That's what we need.

Not sure why people expected Crennel. His KC contract had offset language so he can either a) take a year off and make x million or b) take a coaching job and make the same amount. No brainer.

Yeah. Maybe they saw how the D played in the zone last year and figured it would be much easier to go back to man, rather than replacing a ton of personnel or continuing to hope the players make the transition.
