But yesterday, TV Guide ran a story based on a recent interview with HIMYM co-creator Craig Thomas. The article declared that next season will "look and feel much different from past seasons," with Thomas revealing that there's "going to be a new way to tell the story" and that fans are "never going to mistake a Season 9 episode [as being] from one of the previous eight [seasons]."

quote:

The series can show her side of many of the stories we've heard Ted tell over the years. Her experience at the bar on St. Patrick's Day when she forgot her yellow umbrella. The time Ted was in her apartment while she was in the shower. I'm sure HIMYM could even create "new" close calls, where the mother almost met Ted over the years. And as a bonus, allowing a few new actors to carry some of the final season's storylines would free up the principal cast to work on other projects—which would make sense, considering that the growing careers of stars like Jason Segel are what almost kept Season 9 from happening in the first place.

Who knows if this is how it will actually go, but it could be interesting!

I'm not opposed to it either. Could keep it from becoming even more drawn out.

I definitely want to get to know the mother and will be PISSED if we don't get to!

Given the writers past history though, now that this prediction is out on the interent, they will do anything to make sure it doesnt happen

I guess I'm for it, but I wonder how it would do in the ratings without the familiar faces there to hold it together. But then again, final season, why would they care about ratings?

Hmm I actually like that idea. And that should confirm without a doubt that we'll meet the mother at the end of this season

Thought that would mean Ted, Barney, Robin, Marshall, and Lily would have diminished roles

I have no idea how "How I Met Your Mother" has lasted so long, but then again "Two and a Half Men" is still on TV.

Kind of a cool idea, but I think the show just needs to end at this point.

If they use that to explain the pineapple the entire 9th season would be worth it.

Oh dear lord. Well if it is I'll realize how god awful it is after one episode and stop watching.

Nothing will replace the 30 minutes I lost watching that episode

This concerns me. It is going to have to have a pretty strong cast to carry it. Could definitely work if they do it right though.

Interesting. Normally bringing on new cast this late in a TV series because the main stars are too busy is a very bad sign, but they might have the structure to make it work.

IMO all of the main characters have gotten stale anyway. Diminished roles could help
