I decided to take my wife shopping in Atlanta for her birthday this past weekend. It would be a shopping trip for her and a food trip for me. I saw Anthony Bourdain's The Layover in Atlanta a few weeks ago and decided to try a few places he visited along with some other places. Holeman & Finch and HD1 were the places he went to that I wanted to try.

Well the first place we went to was Dough Bakery (vegan friendly bakery) because my wife is a vegan and she wanted to try it.
I tried some of their vegan King Cake and a vegan muffin.

The next place we went to was Mango Carribean. I wanted to try something different and found this place. It had tofu for my wife also. I thought being from Louisiana I could handle the spicy food with no problems, but I sweated a little.
I tried two entrees, Pic #1 Kingfish xtra spicy with seasoned rice, plantains, and cabbage; Pic #2 Jerk Chicken with seasoned rice, plantains and cabbage.

Friday night we went to Agave. Its a Southwest/Mexican restaurant. The menu was vegan friendly. Overall it was solid.
The first pic was the app I had, veal and chorizo meatballs; the second pic is my entree, crawfish stuffed trout.

Now Saturday was gonna be the day I was gonna go the places I wanted to go to, Holeman & Finch, and HD1. We started out having breakfast at Ria's Bluebird in Atlanta. I had the brioche french toast with caramelized bananas and grilled ham and scrambled eggs. I had entree envy with the dude that was sitting next to us. He had the Huevos that looked so good. I'll get it next time.

Now we were going to have lunch at HD1 and dinner at Holeman & Finch. Well I underestimated the amount of time my wife would need to shop. We were in the stores all day and skipped lunch. So we then decided to just have dinner at Holeman & Finch. Well Bourdain made it look like you could go in there at 9:30, find a seat and get one of their 24 burgers at 10pm. Well we go there at 7:45pm and was told the wait time would be over 2 hours. So we left and went to HD1 and it was great.
I got two dogs, the East Bound and Down and the Chicago Dog. I also got the waffle fries with a sweet glaze that were pretty good.

Looks good.

2 questions. Honestly, how was the vegan king cake? Also, what does your wife eat at places like the others? I've eaten at Agave, and can't recall seeing a vegan dish.

The vegan king cake wasnt bad. It was actually good.

We planned this trip for a couple of weeks and we were looking for places vegan friendly and we found Agave. They have a seperate vegetarian menu that you have to ask for. At other places, she'll just have a salad or a side.
