SPR is overrated, but it's miles ahead of Shawshank. I've written about my disdain for the latter on other threads.
Not that SPR is a bad movie, but it's not the GOAT, or close to Spielberg's best.

People heap praise on SPR all the time but does anyone ever really rewatch the whole movie. I like bits and pieces of it but it is a very harsh film and not one I like to watch on a whim.
I can watch Shawshank over and over.
The slow knife death scene in SPR makes me ill and pisses me off too much to watch.
Shawshank and it isn't close. Once again, how many of you saying SPR actually watch the whole film multiple times a year?
