To be fair Shitty's youth system were never going to get them to the point they are today, but they'd be fools to not invest heavily in it today...

it all starts from the ground up, the revolving door of players will never work in the long run. Develop your core talent then buy impact players in areas of need.

Our youth system now would never had been possible without money and some success. Thanks to Bloody Oil Money, we're getting there. The long term plan is admittedly to work like Utd's

In a perfect world.

But how many former youth players have started for United in EPL matches this year?

Yeah, but they were garbage before the money... they needed that to jump start their club... Sturridge was a victim of that influx of cash, when they started buying strikers out the wazoo...

But I agree, they cant sustain that model, but now have the foundation to build more organically...

i think we will start seeing people who have come up through our system start getting appearances and making major contributions in the next few seasons.

United have a fantastic academy. And it goes beyond simply who plays for them. There are several high profile players who no longer play at United who went through the academy. Beckham, Pique, Shawcross, O'Shea, Phil Neville, Rossi, etc.

WSE is one of the best posters on this board but this is showing his age and how long hes been following united. I been following this club for almost 20 years, damn i feel old and ive been able to watch the factory of players they have produced.

This is why it's a great academy.

Fletcher hasn't played much and is done for the rest of this year.

Giggs and Scholes are United lifers. Rotation options.

Evans, Welbeck, and Cleverley would make United's first choice 18. Cleverley has become a regular starter and has the tools to be a star in the future.

My point was that, like most big money teams, the majority of United's stars are not homegrown. We could only list six out of 20+ starters for United.

And yes, you've followed this team for 20 years. I'm not even 20 years old yet. But that's alright.

yeah, seems you all have been doing it right for quite some time.

i'm very excited with where our academy is right now and the direction it is heading. there are six or seven guys in your EDS who i think will be able to make major contributions to the first team in the next two to five years.

hopefully your management uses them and not just sell them or loan them off while just bringing in big name players keeping the the revolving door going

right, players that come through the academy need to be able to realistically do so with the mindset that if they do things right then they have a legit shot at playing for the first team.
