re: Iran unveils stealth fighters

there is a 0% chance that the aircraft shown cannot be picked up by radar...

too many corners and the underbelly tank will show like a Christmas tree

I believe you. I can't imagine Iran could get true stealth capability.

Stealth.

It's a subjective term.

Your link is not a picture of the Qaher F-313. See this instead, looks somewhat similar to the F-22.

You can find videos if you Google "Qaher F-313". It is thought that videos of the thing in flight are likely just scale drones, although the plane itself is apparently real.

For those who are interested, the news story in the OP has a picture of Iran's "Saeqeh" fighter, which is based off the chassis of an F-5 but with the tails of an F-18. As many of you noted it is not a stealth fighter, nor is it intended to be.

But I'm sure Ghazi is feeling like a proud papa nonetheless.

Wiki for Saeqeh

I was about to post a similar picture. Even I knew that the non angled intakes would have hampered its stealth capability.

The jet has a strangely familiar design.

Yeah, it does look a lot like the Lightning doesn't it?

I bet the Iranian version has nowhere near the engine power though, or supporting radar systems that can be integrated with an AWACS or the like. May not have the right anti-radar surface either, which I understand requires constant maintenance.

Looks far more like the F-35 than the elegance that is the Raptor

This. It does not look at all like the F-22. And color me extraordinarily skeptical that that thing can a) fly; b) is stealthy; c) poses any serious threat to either penetrating radar, delivering substantial ordinance, or threatening even non-stealth aircraft in air to air engagements.

It looks like a piece of shite.

My money is on a functional craft similar in capability to an Hornet, but only mild functional stealth.

It mostly steals from the stealthy style of build in the frame.

They don't have the high end composites in the frame, or the radar dampening paint we have.

It's just something they have on paper to sound more threatening than they practically are.

Iranians are right it's 100% stealth. There is no way that plane will ever be picked up on radar. The reason for this is that the damn thing isn't flight capable. Look at it closely. It's a fabric covered frame. The fabric covering is full of wrinkles.

You are right1!! -

That is unreal - couldn't they at least get the wrinkles out before they dropped it on the world.

But they are right - it will evade our radar. It will be in a cave somewhere.

We had really advanced nuke tech before we had good stealth aircraft.

I seriously doubt this thing is much of a stealth aircraft.

You do realize that they never claimed that to be a working plane?

It's a full size mock up.

There are two functional and fly able mid sized prototypes, analysts believe them to be drones.
