What do ya'll hunt with when it comes to firearms and ammo.
me and oldest are going to the camp in the morning to do a squirrel hunt because I am craving some dumplings. I hunt with a .22 and packed a .20ga for him.
I use high brass game shot for a .20ga and a low brass when using a 12ga. What does the OB use when they hunt tree rats?

with a 17 you better make damn sure it's a head shot. They will blow a tree rat up if hit wrong!

.22 from various platforms.
Always go for a head shot so that the squirrel will kick itself out of the tree. We hunt them by walking through the woods and shaking vines that go to the beds that we find. One man gets off to the side and watches while the other shakes the bed.
I enjoy a good squirrel hunt as much as anything I do outdoors.

I hunt w/ 22LR pistols or rifles (Remington Golden Bullet HP) or a 17 Mach 2 rifle (Hornady V-Max bullet).
When squirrel hunting w/ a dog, other guns in the party usually include combinations of:
20 gauge-6 shot, high brass
16 gauge-6 or 7 1/2 shot, high brass
12 gauge-6 or 7 1/2 shot, high brass

12 ga low brass
This is the right answer in 20 ga also. The low brass shells usually use a softer lead which spreads as it hits bone and does more damage to kill the squirrel dead. When using high brass shells I have noticed that sometimes I would shoot a squirrel and he would hit the ground running. Then you hafta go find the little booger only to discover that you had made a great kill shot and put plenty of shot in the animal. Just my observation. Take it for what it's worth.

20 gauge with 7-1/2 high brass. Never had any problems

I always used exactly what you're talkin about, with full or modified. Squirrels ain't dat tough unless the trees are real tall.

.22 10/22 but with the lack of .22 bullets I might swap to a shotgun.
