Been looking at new shotguns recently and was wondering everyones take on the differences between gas and inertia. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both? And which would you prefer?

Initeria MAY be more reliable but gas is softer shooting. Buy quality gun tht FITS you. Have both. Both good

Whatever the old A5 is.

I hunted in SD last December in damn near blizzard conditions and all the guys with the fancy Berettas and Benellis kept freezing up. My Light 12 A5 never missed a beat. It made me a believer.

Don't all Benelli's have inertia? I also thought they have the patent.

To the OP, Inertia.

I hunt with a gas driven gun now and it does shoot good. Very light recall. I can shoot 3.5's all day and it not really bother me. I just see all this stuff about inertia and was wondering what it was all about.

The only advantage of gas is soaking up recoil.

Recoil operated wins the other categories.

Old school recoil operation with recoiling barrel and a friction ring.

If anyone shooting the old A5 would shoot a Benelli they'd realize just how much of an improvement it is. I shot the A5 for years and loved them but once I shot a Benelli I had to have one.

I love that feeling.

The coolest thing is when somebody across a dove field is shooting low brass shells outta one. The gun banging and clanging is louder than the shot.

Gas Operated have the lightest recoil and overall action is more smooth.

Beretta & Browning are two of the best but my 1980ish Remington 1100 20 Gauge is a fine shooting shot gun!
