We use a small hammer the next morning after they have been on ice. We catch them and rarely use a gig.

Go to Walmart and get some Asian seafood. Go home and cook it. After you are full, do a quick internet search of Asian aquiculture. You won't eat that stuff again. If you do, you are a sick SOB.
