| Immigration? (Posted on 1/29/13 at 4:53 pm)
Serious question......How does America benefit by passing the proposed bipartisan "amnesty" plan? Other than the 11 million illegal immigrants, who benefits?

It's a great question that crossed my mind earlier today. We did this in 1986 and got screwed as the border was not sealed as was promised. They will do the same crap again.

I don't disagree with that, but the republicans are jumping over themselves to get it passed first. Both parties are looking to expand their base, but the question remains.......How does it benefit America?

Thank you....I agree.....we have not passed a budget in 4 years but this Senate wants to pass an amnesty plan that will only cost us more money in the long run.

Exactly since Progressives keep telling us illegals already pay taxes, I saw a article earlier that illegal numbers are increasing again, I wonder if the path to citizenship is a part of it.

Agreed Rubio might get some mileage from this.....but how does America benefit? In reality most of the illegals are working low income jobs. Once they are "processed" they will be eligible for "all" the government goodies!

Apparently, according to news agencies, a lot of illegals were pouring back across the border because of the economy. Mexico's economy must be fricking booming.

Exactly, there should be no amnesty plan considered until the flow of illegals is stopped.

Actually, the figures have been decreasing. New Pew Report
quote:
Trends in unauthorized immigration: The most recent Pew Hispanic Center estimate is that 11.1 million unauthorized immigrants lived in the U.S. in 2011. Unauthorized immigration peaked at 12.0 million in 2007, and fell since then mainly because of less immigration from Mexico, the largest source of U.S. immigration (Passel and Cohn, 2012). In 2010, unauthorized immigrants from Mexico made up 58% of all unauthorized immigrants (Passel and Cohn, 2011). Migration from Mexico: Immigration from Mexico has declined since 2007, largely because of the first decrease in unauthorized immigration in at least two decades. This report includes Mexican data about the characteristics, experience and future intentions of Mexican migrants handed over to Mexican authorities by U.S. law enforcement agencies; and U.S. data on border enforcement as well as characteristics of Mexican-born immigrants in the U.S. (Passel, Cohn and Gonzalez-Barrera, 2012).
Regarding why bringing into the system benefits America...taxes.
quote:
Unauthorized immigrant worker characteristics: Unauthorized immigrants make up 25% of farm workers (not including temporary workers), according to 2008 data in a Pew Hispanic Center report that also includes estimates of unauthorized immigrant shares of other occupations and industries. This report includes details on school enrollment by unauthorized immigrant children and by U.S.-born children of unauthorized immigrants; and estimates of educational attainment, income, poverty rates and health insurance status of unauthorized immigrants (Passel and Cohn, 2009).

The flow is almost negative at this point, especially if you consider the deportations that have occurred under Obama.
