So with the new build I have a few rebates to send in and they ask for the UPC on the box. My initial thought was to scan them and not damage the box in case I need to RMA it or something. Supposedly, according to a coworker of mine they usually require the original UPC cut out of the box, which will then null any warranty. Anyone have any experience with this situation or can I just scan it?

If you scan it you ain't getting a thing.

They want ANY reason not to give that rebate.

Cutting out the UPC will not null a warranty. You just won't be able to return it to the store/online retailer for a refund.

For warranty service, you need only the product serial number and perhaps a copy of your invoice/receipt but usually not.

Yeah rebates are strict but if you follow instructions, it's not that big of a deal. Pretty much all rebates require you to fill out a particular rebate form and mail it along with your original UPC and a copy of your invoice. They'll usually want the UPC taped to the form, and many of them require you to cut out their barcoded address label and affix it to an envelope. Deviation from any of their instructions will likely result in denial -- although MSI actually gives you a second chance to get your rebate if you screw up the first time. Other companies might do this as well.

Maybe it's because compliance analysis is part of my job, but I've never had an issue with rebates.

The one time I did it was with a laptop and I just cut out the upc. I didn't even think about the warranty but they def want the actual upc.

original UPC is needed for rebates and refunds, not warranty work.

I guess for my peace of mind, I'll just make scan copies for my records. Thanks guys, with my luck I would have sent scans and not found out till it was too late.

I don't do rebates, they make them such a pain in the arse that I refuse to deal with them, I just go with the best price w/o a rebate.

They add up for me. Alone, the little 15 here and 20 there aren't much. This build however is already at about $75 so far so it's worth it.

I was able to peel off the UPC on my Vertex and use that on my rebate. So you might want to try that if any of your boxes have a sticker UPC on them.
