Dumb Brokerage House Question

When I was opening up my Vanguard IRA/Roth, there was something in there about these funds are not FDIC insured...
Is that the same no matter what institution you go to, whether its a bank or a brokerage house for an IRA?
Are the funds insured in some way?

SIPC insures brokerage accounts.
