Yeah, Rice catching 22 TD passes in only 12 games in '87 wasn't jaw dropping.

It took Moss 16 games to reach #23 to break Rice's record.

The Results were jaw dropping but the act itself was never as amazing as what moss could and did do.

Jerry rice is weird too. He'd barely outrun a linebacker for a TD then barely outrun a corner for a TD. He just had something that made him a hair faster than whoever was chasing him down. Moss just blew by anyone anytime and would catch long TDs while being triple teamed.

Jerry Rice's 3rd to last season in the league, 40 years old - 92 Rec., 1,211 Yds., 7 TDs

Randy Moss's 3rd to last year (had to sit out his 2nd to last year because no one wanted him), 33 years old - 28 Rec., 393 Yds., 5 TDs

So the GOAT is reduced to "who is the most explosive"?

You need to raise your standards.

I never said moss is the goat. Are you being deliberately obtuse? Moss was a more explosive player. That's all I'm saying. According to moss that makes him the GOAT. You're an absolute fool if you believe Jerry revery possessed the same kind of playmaking ability Moss had. Doesn't mean I think Moss is the greatest.

Eta: I believe had moss taken care of himself and had been more dedicated, he would be the GOAT, but he wasn't and Jerry's numbers and consistency are untouchable

you talked out of both sides of you're mouth so you should understand why I'm confused.

You also managed to change the discussion from the OP to some bullshite about MEOAT instead of GOAT.... I'm impressed

I think you should stick to video games if you cannot grasp a simple concept like that.

Maybe I don't understand everyone interpretation for explosive is, but IMO an explosive receiver is someone who can take over a game and become almost unstoppable.

Jerry Rice was double teamed his entire career and still piled up records. He's one of the few that Dion Sanders never was able to contain.

I remember a game when Dion was playing for Atlanta and was smoked by Rice for a long touchdown and he was holding Jerry by the facemask as jerry drug them both into the endzone to score with him running backwards pulling.

& didn't JR score 5 TD's in a single game before? SICK

Well, Jerry made just as many, if not more great plays than Randy, so he probably has more playmaking ability. And anyone who thinks Jerry wasn't double or triple teamed is a fool. He just broke off of coverage. He wasn't going after jump balls and all of that.

Using The Alien Test,* Moss is the greatest WR of all time. And at the end of the day, The Alien Test is the only test that really matters.

*The Alien Test.

Aliens have invaded Earth. They are inclined to destroy the planet, but they love football and so they've made a deal with us that we can borrow their time machine and go back and get players in their prime for the game. If we win, the planet is spared. If we lose, planet destroyed.

Who is the first receiver that you get? Me, I go back to 2003 and grab Randy Moss. And why? Well because the fate of the world is at stake. And Randy Moss is uncoverable.

This is frustrating. I'm not saying that he was devoid of talent, but he didn't possess the talent of moss. Really everything I'm saying is a testament to JR. He way outperformed moss despite moss having every conceivable advantage. And while JR was routinely double teamed, It is almost comical the amount of attention randy moss got when he was with the Vikings. Compare the highlights. Moss was So much more explosive, and I don't know why acknowledging that has to be an indictment on JR. JR is the GOAT.

I've seen both players live In their prime. Moss was just unstoppable

Not what you said in the post I quoted. You said Moss had more playmaking ability. I don't think that's correct.

And as far as the alien test, I'd pick Jerry Rice the year he scored 22tds in 12 games. I'd consider that uncoverable.

Which is why he wins under the terms of The Alien Test -- the only test that really matters.

Jerry rice was uncoverable because he was a good athlete, with amazing hands and unparalleled route skills.

Moss was uncoverable because he was a freak.

That's the difference.

Call it athleticism, playmaking ability, whatever. The tapes show the difference and it is impossible not to see

So I guess this means you'd take Ladainian Tomlinson over Jim Brown in The Alien Test? Thank God you aren't in charge. Do you want the aliens to destroy the planet, or are you just not very smart?

Maybe. I think that's a much better debate than Rice and Moss.

I never said Moss wasn't more athletic. To me, that and playmaking ability are two different things. Like you said earlier, Rice just always seemed a little better and a little faster than whoever was chasing him, whether it was an lb or a db. He always made plays no matter who he was playing against.
