T-P Triplett talked to him yesterday and asked him about being a Saints fan growing up in New Orleans. That was his response that he tweeted

He might be politicking for getting that one last contract. The bad news Pro Football Focus ranked Ed Reed 59th among 88 qualifying safeties in 2012.
Reed is certainly well into his decline phase at age 34. He missed 15 tackles and allowed 17.3 yards per catch this season, both seventh-worst among safeties. Perhaps Reed's free-agency market won't be as strong as initially thought. -per rotoworld

Sad thing is that Harper & Jenkins ranked 87 & 88th out of all safeties. We're stuck with Jenkins cuz of he's cheap. I'll be disappointed if we don't get at least a restructured deal for Harper. $15mil of cap hit the next two seasons for him is obscene.

A 3rd Rd Rambo or Philip Thomas would be great additions into the competition mix IMO.

If we got 75% of what Sharper brought for a year outta big Ed I'd like to see him finish his career off at home.

In other words he's a definite improvement. Got it.

Edt: I heard the other day where I think it was Harbaugh that said Ed wants to get into coaching. I wonder if we could get Ed on the cheap and pay him a coaches salary to be a player coach. My guess is the league doesn't allow this, but I don't know for sure.

Edt2: We could then move Jenkins back to safety and shore up that spot without needing to burn a draft pic.

Ed definitely looks the part of a one year going out contract guy. Cost is more the issue than ability with the Saints cap issues. Unfortunately I think he would have several suitors (Belichick a huge Reed fan). Sharper was cheap cuz there was no market for him.

How about Richard Seymour as another stop gap vet on the D line? Same thing, IF affordable.

i wouldn't mind Reed in NO - he is a player, sure he is on the decline some, but like the poster above said - if we can get performance out of him in the way that Sharper did, why not take a chance.

I asked Ed Reed for an autograph once. But then i realized it wasn't ed reed, just a homeless guy under a bridge who lost his sanitation job for hitting on too many women. I then brought him a cello and asked him to play me a song and he sucked bad.

Ray Lewis responded in tears saying "It's a beautiful thing. Only a higher power can take away Ed's fanhood"

I would be for brining in Reed if the money was right but I think that some desperate team is going to overpay for his services.

I could see him ending up with the Jets. He seems like their perfect target. An aging player with ties to Rex. A big name on the downside of his career. A player that will likely underperform the money that is paid.

For us, Abdul-Quddus seemed to be more productive than Jenkins when he replaced him. I wonder how he would perform as a full-time starter.
