Not that I give a shite about Blake Shelton. But i heard Dallas Wayne on XM 60 commenting on it this morning. So I googled it. Here's what he said.

quote:

“Nobody wants to listen to their grandpa’s music,” Shelton said, adding, “And I don’t care how many of these old farts around Nashville going, ‘My God, that ain’t country!’ Well that’s because you don’t buy records anymore, jacka**. The kids do, and they don’t want to buy the music you were buying.”

At a boy Blake.

Somebody else post a link. I'm driving and eating a biscuit. Tia

gary allan and blake shelton might as well be from different planets. gary's gone down hill a little, but shelton's greatest hits couldn't hold a candle to allan's smoke rings in the dark album

I hated country until i discovered the classics. that shite from the 50, 60s and 70s was good music. The stuff now, might as well listen to miley cyrus or justin beiber. just fricking awful.

I do support anyone telling the Boomers to go frick themselves. Unfortunately, it had to be Blake Shelton in defense of his crappy career. It's not just the classic better than you, its the hundreds of guys laboring in obscurity right now but can't get on the radio because they aren't slick enough and lack "crossover appeal."

Every red dirt country act should be legally allowed to punch Shelton in the face.

kind of agree. music evolves, but what they market as country is pop music repackaged with southern stereotypes.

i know we had a heated thread on this a while back, but i can't let it go. i have a special kind of hate for these artists. i know they're just doing what they know will sell, but that doesn't make it right in my eyes. i know the downfall of the genre started years ago, but they're the face now, and the face needs to be kicked in, imo

No, I totally agree with you. But Nashville has always pumped out warmed over crap. The reason it was called "outlaw country" is because they couldn't get the support of the old farts running country music back in the 60s and 70s. Mainstream country has always been warmed over pop. There's not a huge difference between the Mandrell sisters and Shania Twain or Roy Rogers and Blake Shelton.

The Grand Ole Opry did not embrace Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash.

But I do, in general, support those who told the old fogeys to stop foisting their music on us. You had your time, and now its over. We like a lot of what you did, but we like this new stuff, too. Life moves on.

There is probably not another current mainstream country artist that knows/respects traditional country more than Blake Shelton. At his shows he's always covering old classics.

quote:

Well that’s because you don’t buy records anymore, jacka**. The kids do, and they don’t want to buy the music you were buying.”

If he tried to sell the music Merle Haggard was making he'd be starving right now. It's just a product of how "the system" works. 13-20 yr olds buy records and that's what they want to hear.

Having said that his music has gotten waaaaaaay more pop sounding since he started The Voice.

I liked country music when it was "the white man's blues."
