Anyone know of one? I am looking for someone to take a tree down in my yard. A tree service company quoted 2k. I would like to find one man with his own ascending equipment to take it down and Me and a crew can buck it on the ground. TIA for any contacts

Don't call an arborist. They will charge you $500 to tell you not to cut the tree. Call the tree undertaker. He's in the phone book.

I own a tree removal company, and best advice I can give you is call several companys and get sevearal quotes for dropping and no haul off. If you are set on hiring a guy on the side, just know you will be in a bind if something happens and he gets hurt of property gets damaged. He wont have insurance like we carry and it will be on you.
Haul off is alot of the fee though if there is no structure around and its an easy drop so that alone should save you. If its close to anything like the house, pay the money and have peace of mind because things go wrong all the time.

Anyone that charges for tree work has to be a licensed arborist in La. The difference is the Consultant gets paid for just that, to come consult, but all the tree removal guys will come talk to you about the work and give you an estimate for free.
