Keep your day job and do it online.

Wife is doing this now. Every class in her degree program was/is available online, even though the University is in town. She has only had to go take one test at the school, everything else online. Works full time and takes a full class load.

Dude, go work that job, and bank back cash. Take 6-9 hours online and ease your way in while still making a nice income.

Once you've made decent money and know your worth, working for tips or petty hourly jobs that require no effort is depressing as hell and you'll find yourself slacking on schoolwork to make money.

re: Those who went BACK to school, how did you make a living?

I went from making $100K plus a year to less than $20k still working full time. My wife worked full time and had good benefits. I graduated in accounting in 3.5 years and went to summer school each year. I was 30 when I graduated.

It was the most difficult thing I have ever done. I do not recommend it to anyone that is not 100% committed because it is tough but it can be done. I also graduated with about $20k in student loan debt.

Suck it up and do it, I promise it is worth it.

Doing it now. Continuing to work full time, wife works. Doing it online through a brick and mortar university. Not Phoenix or the like.

Except for the "doing it now."

I went back at 28 to finish my bachelor's degree. I had to finish 30 hours. I scheduled everything I could 100% online, 50% online or at night. Sometimes I would take one class a semester, some times I would take two. Whatever I could. When I got down to my final twelve hours, I had to schedule two classes during the day (and one online, and one at night). I bit the bullet, talked to my boss (I was a marketing director at the time), and offered to work extra hours to make up time on the ten weeks it would take me to finish. I agreed to be "available" for emails during class and calls if absolutely necessary.

Two years later, I got my MBA (online through a brick and mortar). The program was designed to be completed in 24-36 months.... I did it in 15.

You have to be willing to put school first for as long as it takes to get it done, but it can be done.

Had money saved and student loans.

I should note that I finished with about 50k in student loans with a 1.89% interest rate. Pretty much free money.

re: Those who went BACK to school, how did you make a living?

for my Master's Degree I worked about 3 part time jobs including a graduate assistantship and student loans

for my PhD I work full time and student loans. My full time job is definitely a step back and a lot less money than i was making before. But it pays my basic living expenses and I have student loans for school and school-related expenses. Fingers crossed I'll finish my dissertation soon. I'm ready for that full time job with real money again.

Good luck.

CtotheV knows my situation a little better. This is my plan. Talked to dad for a long time and I think this is my option. My job in Minnesota is just training for a year then I have an opportunity to make some good money.

Solid advice man

If I could do it all over again...Accounting undergrad. Work a few years, do internal audit program, get CPA license. I'd then go back to law school to be a Tax Attorney.

Perfect world where I'm loaded and don't have to pay bills...and don't worry about starting life until I'm 30.

Should have done it right the first time.

I don't get your question.

Can you elaborate on what you mean?
