You could just blow on the water for free.

When melting cheese on a hamburger patty, steaming the burger in a skillet is the way to go. Place hamburger patty with cheese in a Hot pan, squirt with some room tenp water and cover with lid until cheese is gooey and melted. For what it's worth I substitute beer for water.

Just to piggy back off of that: hamburger patties can be hot and have the potential to burn your hands. Simply place the patty between two pieces of bread, and you have yourself an effective (and delicious) heat buffer.
