Before it was started, I wanted Heath Ledger to play the part (based off Knight's tale)

Ryan Gosling.

Can't stand his nasally arse voice. I almost want to punch him in the nose to hopefully fix it.

You know hindsight and all. Dude played a great role in BE as a character with some duality. Not sure the Star Wars universe would have been ready for Darth Rosetti

I never would have picked him at the time, but looking back on it Ledger would have made an awesome Vader. It would also be crazy for one actor to play arguably 2 of the greatest villains in movie history.

Hayden, Paul Walker , and Ryan Phillippe were the finalists. It's been rumored that not getting the role played a part in Johnathon Brandis offing himself (that and having his role cut in a war movie).

If Mark Paul Gosselaar were a little younger at the time, I thought he would have had the right look. As for little Anikan, the kid from the Sixth Sense would have been great!

I was actually ok with that. the story is about who he is and where he came from so I didn't mind Lucas starting him off as a young child. The story and dialogue however turned out to be pathetic

frick Young Anakin. That was a huge mistake. What we learn in Episode One is entirely worthless on what happens in the later episodes. Start him off at 20 years old, probably as a smuggler who can use his force powers efficiently, with mind tricks and force chokes. His brother Owen, wants him to stop using the Force since it merely brings out the worst in him. Obi Wan (who is somewhat an outcast in the Jedi Order and recently lost an apprentice) and Anakin become fast friends, and Obi Wan would agree to train him against the Jedi Order's approval. Obi Wan was far too much a stickler to the rules in the prequels, when he really should have been young, eager, and reckless. Anakin is edgy, light hearted, friendly, but extremely power hungry and half the reason he joins the Jedi Order is to increase his power. Add in clones and a minor victory against Darth Maul in the end, and that's what Episode I should have been.

This! Then give me someone who could come off as a nice guy then later someone I hated....Joaquin Phoenix.

biggest problem was wasting an entire film on Anakin as a kid with no personality, nothing to do and no real reason for being around...also have a throw away character by the main character of hte film (Neeson) and a throw away bad guy...just horrible

it wouldn't have mattered who they casted, but as an adult I would have cast someone darker and more physically imposing than Hayden Christianson

I wouldn't make him completely loathsome though. 20 years in that suit is plenty of time to become the evil psychopath he becomes.

a young Val Kilmer. Mysterious and you could see him being mislead to the dark side. That guy that played Magneto in X Men First Class, oh yeah. Perfect.

DDL or JGL.

DDL should be cast as every single character in every movie from now until he dies.

Sorry, but there's some information from characters you don't need. Do really ever want to see Vader as a whinny kid who can't do shite? No, you want him to be a force choking hardass at all times. Having Anakin as a 9 year old is an altogether terrible idea. Did make a cool poster though.

How about Heath Ledger? He would have been perfect for the role. Youthful, popular actor, and actually a great actor. He could have made the character come to life as a much less pathetic and more likable character.
