Will he ever direct another movie? It's been six years since his last one, and IMDb doesn't show anything in the works.
Also, what are the M/TV board's opinions of his movies? Heat, The Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Ali, Public Enemies, etc. I like all the ones I've seen.

I really hope he does. He is a great director. The cinematography in his movies is among the best there is.
His attention to detail for firearms is really awesome

Directed the greatest shootout in the history of cinema
I tell you what, even though Miami Vice was a disappointing movie, the shootout at the end is one of the most acoustically accurate I have ever heard.

I actually enjoyed Muami Vice and was hoping they'd do another.

One of the great directors of all time, imo. He's been prolific in recent history, but the guy is getting old now.
BTW, Thief is probably my favorite Mann movie of all time.

I really like his work. I actually kind of liked Miami Vice as well. There was some corny dialog but It captured the area really well IMO.

Everything he does looks amazing.

Thief and the one about Hannibal Lecter (ETA Manhunter) are so underrated

Right?! His movies just have that perfect look. He's definitely one of my favorite directors, especially cinematography-wise

You're definitely talking about Heat.

Not mentioning Manhunter is a crime.

i havent seen all of miami vice, but if the shootout you're talking about is as acoustically accurate as the Heat heist scene, I'd believe it. He nails all of his gun sound effects.
The training he made Cruise go through in Collateral was awesome. You can see Cruise's proper trigger discipline several times throughout the movie
The fact he gave him a USP also shows he knows quality when it comes to weapons

That's the one I was talking about a few posts up. Awesome movie.

I haven't seen it, sorry.

I don't know how Public Enemies came out as boring of a movie as it did.

People don't realize just how good Miami Vice really is.

I'm with you on that. It's no Heat, but has a faster pace and better locales. I think Mann said he thinks he will never be able to outdo Heat. Sadly, I believe he's right.

Watched Last of the Mohicans again the other day and was reminded of how great the cinematography was. I know he had a cinematographer, but still... that's like being Les Miles' OC.
