Rambling Memories of Coffee (photo)

I really like coffee. In fact I am a certified coffee junkie. Not a connisssour. I don't often frequent coffee houses and I don't do Starbucks. I just really enjoy a good cup and have from 2-10 a day (every day).
***
Here is my favorite coffee supplier on the strip in Pittsburgh. This is home to our youngest son and a good place to go for a few days and transport coffee back from. If you like it, this place has it.

We have good friends who have a son who works for the State Dept. For a few years, he was stationed in Jamaca and during tht time I enjoyed an almost unlimited supply of Jamacian Blue Mountain. Incredible coffee at about $40.00 a pound from US roasters, but virtually free from US State Dept. embassy staff. Maybe he will go back some day as Ambassador and I will live out my remaining days sipping Blue Mountain whenever I want it.
***
We keep our beans (maybe five varieties) in the freezer and I brew (drip) whatever strikes my fancy at the moment. Some favorites.
Honduran - mild, almost fruity. Nice for a relaxed day. I think I have photos of beans on the bush and coffee drying pads in the mountains of Honduras.
Costa Rican - Always dependable. Good aroma and taste.
Zimbabwe - wonderful beans when you can find them. Lately, I think Mugabe has taken a hands off approach to the coffee growers in Zimbabwe and I hope that continues, because the beans are good and I love the flavor of coffee from there. Zimbabwe is a beautiful country with a poor leader.
Kona - IMO, the best thing about Hawaii
Kenyan - Will go back to Africa some day (maybe soon) and will go here if there is any chance
***
I have a good friend (former pirate) an hour and a half over in Alabama (Die Hard Bama fan and not afraid to tell you) who roasts his own. I don't roast, but I enjoy watching him do it and listening to the wisdom of first crack and stuff like that. He is big time serious about it and is always providing me with nice freshly roasted beans. He buys them green by the sack, roasts them medium dark and then gives them to me. Now that's a really good friend.
***
Everyone here who reads my comments knows that I have enjoyed coffee from a c-ration can, in the mountains of Central America, and lots of other places.
This memory is on my mind today.
Maramba River Lodge - North of Livingstone, Zamba and maybe 10 miles upriver from Victoria Falls - early in the day, getting ready to go across into Zimbabwe.
The Coffee? Honestly? You really want to know? Taster's Choice Instant, better than the Nescafe you can buy there and so it was smuggled into Africa in my luggage. Really Nice! Hit the spot that day! I'm not sure what we had (if anything) for breakfast, but we had coffee!

Thanks for looking and listening to my rambling thoughts. By the way, I am the ancient old white haired fart. If you see my photo on the wall at the Post Office, I was framed.

Nice to see you! Is the lady drinking coffee your lovely MHNBFP (did I get that right)?
I've only been drinking coffee on a daily basis for about 8 years. My intake has increased greatly over the last few. I haven't explored many varieties, though.
Feel free to laugh, but I love McDonald's coffee.

Ahhhhhh --- but where's the chickory? IMO - it ain't coffee unless the spoon can almost stand up by itself. Of course, I sometimes wimp out and add milk. You & your wife look like you're having fun. We've recently retired. Trying to get all things done around house and such so that we can start movin' on & traveling.
Have fun. Be safe. And ring those cowbells. I still think of the Bell FB player now & then. So sad.

Yes May Her Name Be Praised Forever. She has tracked with and behind me all over the world.
I think McDonalds makes excellent coffee. And at my age I can walk into any McDonalds and get a small cup free!

Too far down. Have you walked across the bridge? Probably have a photo somewhere.
Did you bungie jump between Zambia and Zimbabwe?
I didn't either - maybe next time

Regarding Tasters Choice, I always take some with me when I go to the boonies. Much better than getting stuck with none,
You can take an inverter and make boiling water from the hood of a Land Rover and have. Cup of coffee in ten minutes from the side of a game trail. Hard to run a pot or mr Coffee under same conditions. So we always take instant coffee and crystal light orange packs.

That's quite a range. I only have 1 a day. It's a Quad Espresso from Starbucks. But today I shifted gears for the first time in 7 years. I had my quad with steamed skim instead of adding cold milk myself.
It was a big leap. I told Lucy about it and she said "That's the most amazing story I've ever heard. You should call the newspaper."

I do chickory in LA. And I probably make strong coffee.
Both sons do expresso and I haven't gone that far yet. I'll drink a cup with them but stay away from it otherwise.

Number a day depends on how busy I am and how close to a pot.
Only four today so I'm behind my estimated intake

I hear ya. At my gym there are at least 7 old guys who come in every morning and go into the lounge just off the weight room and have free coffee and chat. They don't do any exercises at all. They leave after an hour when the coffee pot is empty. They probably go home and tell their wives "Yep, spent another hour at the gym today. Feelin' really fit."

Gym?
What is this Gym you speak of Marlow?
So let me get this straight.
You drive your car to a place where you can walk on a treadmill?
You have my eternal admiration!
Young person.

It's right next door to Starbucks.

Actually, I live in the woods 20 miles away from the gym. Too far to walk. I lift weights there.

Thanks.

I love coffee!
Starbucks is horrible as 90% of coffee shops across the US.
I roast my own and have my espresso setup at home.
Always roast the green beens within 15 months of being picked....always use the roasted beans within 15 days of being roasted, and always pull a shot within 15 minutes of grinding.
You can say I'm a fanatic!!!
The crazy part about it is two years ago I didn't drink coffee.
