100% truth. If you start thinking about it, you're screwed.
if taking meds or eating something makes you think you won't get sick... Take it.

It isn't mental for me. I'm fine until I break a line and have to retye. Once I sit down and focus on the line it gets me. I've gotten to the point now that I can retie without looking.

Phenergan gel works really well also. Was designed as a topical relief from nausea for chemo patients.

I don't get seasick, but the womenfolk swear by these:

Also I don't allow ANY talk about seasickness on my boat - it only serves to make people sick.

Ginger and bitters I've also heard work well, and my step mother used to say peanut M&Ms helped her, but that seems a little weird to me. But I always say whatever works and I don't try to tell them different.

Oh yeah, going below seems to make it worse for some folks.

ETA: I think West Marine sells the wrist bands.

If you don't get that sick, just take half of a non drowsy one. Take it about 1.5 hrs before you head out.

I absolutely love to go offshore but have become prone to sea sickness the older I get. Nothing works for me. I've tried it all. All the medicines make me feel worse. I agree its mostly mental though. But my 2 cents. You either will get sick or won't. Medicine won't change that fact.

I've never gotten sick, and actually I don't mind rough seas. But all you can do is take Dramamine, drink ginger ale, and when you get sick jump in the water. Swimming for some reason always helps people who are seasick.

Not sure about that. Some folks get disoriented and they become seasick. It happened to me the first time on the ferry. I had the same feeling in the early stages of an earthquake. It's caused by disorientation when your senses are sending conflicting signals to the brain.

A lot of it may be mental, but there is definitely a physiological aspect to seasickness with some folks. Most astronauts have used medication to help overcome it and pilots are more likely to experience it in simulators than they are in the air.

You can get used to it, but it's definitely a normal reaction. Get in the center of the vessel to reduce motion.
