Didn't JC used to play up but the schools in whatever class bitched and they had to start playing in AA again?

When they did play up, they never played all the way up. They sat back in 4A and won about 15 state titles...then dropped to 2A and won about 15 more.

Evangel was in 5A from 99 to 04. They won state in 99, 01, 02, 03, and lost in the finals in 04 only because JDB skipped his senior year. 2000 was the only year they didn't play in the Dome and that was due to playing in a massive thunderstorm.

A big consolidated public school, that can draw on kids from most of a decently large parish is pretty much always on par competitively with a larger catholic/private school that draws kids throughout possibly a larger region, but has several other similarly situated schools in its region doing the same.

They were obviously the odd exception in this regard.

Because you put Evangel and Curtis in the same class. If they were still in 4A and 5A those numbers would be heavily waited towards private.

If anything, this will further corrupt the public schools

BS.......are you really that naive to think it was just an isolated case?

I love the arguements for......oh my, let's give more kids the opportunity to be successful and win. I'm sure this will help them out in the real world, just more of the "let's not keep score, everyone gets a trophy" mentality that is bringing our society down. We don't equip our children anymore to deal with failure, only success......so when they get out in the big bad world and little johnny doesn't get the account he has no idea how to deal with failure.

So we need to strip away the facts for your case to be made?

i grew up (at least middle school on) with most of the kids who ended up on the baseball/football teams

i made a friend freshman year who became our anchor who had moved in from houston. his dad got a job at the refineries. he wasn't recruited. he made the baseball team. the other outsider was josh fontenot who transferred in from iowa. that one may have had some issues

the gosport kids had already been attending SLC schools since middle school (and in some cases, elementary schools)

My gf's mom is the principal at Barbe and I talked to her about this just last night. Public schools are sick of private schools recruiting/winning everything.

Tell her when Barbe stops drawing baseball players from Sulphur (Prince), Iowa (Fontenot), Jennings (forget the kid's name), LC-B (forget his name too...played QB on the football team and was drafted), LaGrange (too many to mention) and everywhere else remoteley close to the Barbe district, they have a right to complain.

That Barbe voted for this without being one of the school forced to go select is the HEIGHT of hypocrisy.

This is a disaster and they are too stupid to know it. If Louisiana schools want to be like Texas FUND YOUR PUBLIC SCHOOL PROGRAMS. If UIL members didn't spend beaucoup bucks on their programs -- we all know how overboard they go with stadiums, for example -- then kids there would flock to private schools too. This will do nothing to improve public schools. It will just place more emphasis on the difference between a well-run or well-funded private school athletic program and a crappy public school program that sucks because the school board WON'T GIVE IT THE RESOURCES to be better.

You want the best players to stop going to UHigh, Catholic, Curtis, etc., FIX EBR and ORLEANS PARISH schools.

Winnfield suffers not because of Curtis' "cheating" and "recruiting" but because Orleans Parish schools and Jefferson Parish schools suck so bad, a lot of parents of athletes feel they HAVE to send their kids to private schools. It's also why Winnfield can't compete with UHigh and why it can't compete with Evangel.

Fund the four East bank Jefferson Parish prep football programs the way Katy, Texas is funded (with huge coaching staffs and facilities to match) and instead of playing powerhouse 2A teams like Curtis in the playoffs, Winnfield is playing 2A private schools from New Orleans and Baton Rogue it can compete with. Why? Good players would be playing for the public schools.

Get it straight. This is a PUBLIC SCHOOL PROBLEM. Private schools do what they do. That they do it so well in this state is not because the private schools are extraordinary here and cheat and recruit more than in Texas, but because THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS CAN'T GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER.

This is a travesty.

This.

This is also from Ponamsky: 20 schools have won the 35 titles, 12 are public, 8 are private.
