New Advocate article:

Advocate Article

Looks like the privates are having a hard time agreeing among even themselves. If I had to guess, each school is trying to find a way to avoid being grouped with Curtis. If I remember right, weren't the big 5A schools (public and private) the ones who used to shoot down proposals of having schools like Curtis and Evangel able to play up to 5A (I know that Curtis didn't voluntarily play up that high back when they could but I'm thinking later there were proposals to let them play up but only in the "highest class" and the big schools were against the proposals.

there is some discussion for this:

5 Public classes, 3 select divisions. Complete split for football inside the LHSAA. Selects on one side, non-selects on their side. Separate districts for each side as well. Schools can play each other across the select/non-select lines but there will be no power points for doing so. Separate playoffs and state championships as well.

This would solve a few immediate issues.
1) everyone maintains LHSAA status for now
2) privates dont have to shoulder the costs of starting a new Association
3) LHSAA keeps the privates in-house and works to prevent the inevitable law suits
4) both sides avoid losing a lot of money in the near term
5) school boards dont have to deal with schools under their jurisdiction in two different associations

The irony is, some publics can still make some gate money off the privates but they wont get power points for doing so which could keep them out of their playoffs and eliminate their "fair chance at a state title." The privates wouldn't get power points either but there are fewer selects to fill the brackets and that means it is theoretically not as big a deal to lose a week's worth of power points

This move in football would be short term and in anticipation of an all sports split (which the Exec Committee allegedly wants to avoid at all costs right now).

if we play holy cross and there's no power points for that game, shouldn't we divide by 9 instead of 10?

EDIT- nm, i don't see any viable way you can have a school play a game and it not count for the power ratings

i'd be pissed if we beat a select team and not have it count at all. why play if that's the case?

maybe for non-select schools, only count the games against select if you win?

a lot of principals, ad's and coaches are working hard to keep traditional games viable under a variety of options.

sad thing is if curtis and eca were in 4a and 5a or both 5a for football we wouldn't be hearing any of this....

The problem with prop 18 now is how do you give power ratings for games between schools in two different playoffs?

the same way you did before? they'll still have a classification.

selects can come up with their own way. they can use the basketball formula which is class neutral (you can compare a 5A and 1A school to each other numerically)

Most of these schools will travel well if this does happen. I'd like to check out games in NOLA.

We wouldn't travel to them they would come and go home with a huge chunk of change from a packed Bayou/River area home crowd like some schools do now.

And to the posters that don't believe the public schools want our gate revenue, come witness the stands at one of the public school games in the Baton Rouge area and then get back with me

If schools that don't bring alot of fans can't play the privates for a paycheck, they'll just play the successful public schools from the surrounding areas for a paycheck.

only ten weeks in the season.. not enough of those to go around...

hence why many urban publics voted against it.

Every HC/Chalmette game has been at Chalmette for the last 30 years?

That's interesting. I guess if you're splitting the gate anyway, have the game at the place that's going to draw the most fans.

The public schools that draw well will be looking to fill schedules too. They'll have more room than usual since they also won't be able to schedule private schools that they typically would. Plus, no privates in the districts mean smaller districts, which means more non-district games than usual to schedule schools just looking for a paycheck. Everyone would be just fine.

I went read it. I see the logic... just figured we would all stick together brother.
I do agree that you guys loose more to privates than SL in terms of players going else where. There is talk that Holy Rosary might make it a K-12 school... and then the magnet you told me about... Parish is growing man.

-I remember some players going to JT... but I belive it had more to do with some trouble off field than anything else. I was actually neighbor to one of these kids that went to Curtis.

Yea yea yea the SL recruited it title team back in 98. Been down that road a ton on here... haters gonna hate
We will see what this new football coach brings you guys. I can't wait!

the key is the Catholic schools can play anywhere around here and it draws like a home game...

This is the part that makes the least sense to me. West Monroe could schedule De La Salle from California and it would count in their power rankings, but if they schedule De La Salle from New Orleans, it won't?

Why not treat each other just as you would out-of-state schools? That would help with scheduling.

the proposal I wrote out is one of several ideas being floated around

ETA: the reason for this part of the proposal would obviously be to dissuade the two sides from playing each other. IE: "You can play them but it may cost you"

Bouzigard the principal there and that dude is about as hardcore Tarpon fan as they get. He was the coach of those "recruited" teams hahaha. If that were to happen I doubt he'd let the school do anything to hurt Tarpon athletics.

It wasn't any of that. All dozen or so that went to Curtis were good kids. It was just a few kids at first but when the former head coach, and at the time assistant coach of SL sends his kid to Curtis the floodgates opened. I remember SL fans complaining that parents of the kids that went to Curtis were in the stands at bantam games and even South Lafourche games talking to players parents trying to "encourage" them to send their kids to Curtis too.

You got that right, and regardless if there was a split or not I think for the most part the Terrebonne/Lafourche teams with the coaching/administration hires made over the past few years were heading in the right direction.

So, in other words, all this split just because no one wants to play the football factories, and they keep getting passed around like a drunken stripper at a bachelor party. The Selects will gerrymander just like the Publics did until someone (3A) is screwed by the ones above them that want no part of JC and ECA, and the smaller schools that want to be rid of them.

So, what was really accomplished by all these machinations? Hey, I'd rather drive a little and play ED White than stay home and play Baker, so if we are to be banished come playoff time, let's go all in. I will say again, pitting a school with 400 kids versus a lineup of NO 5A with 2000 students should make anyone voting for the 3A-5A combination option blush with shame.
