When the privates take their money and leave the LHSAA, you'll see righteous anger.

Parkview gets many of the best white athletes in the Baton Rouge area. At this point the school sells itself. They have recruited a couple of kids I know who were stud players but Parkview was not going to pay any tuition. Those kids stayed at their schools. EDW unlike some catholic schools doesn't recruit. That area has some talent but EDW won't pull what Catholic High did a couple of years ago and take in a large group of public school minority students to play football. They just don't do that.

Didn't the MAIS head meet with a number of LHSAA privates in Baton Rouge today? Anyone have a report?

So that's what it amounts to? Kids have been threatening to take their balls and go home if they don't get their way since games were invented. Yet somehow the games always manage to go on.

If they feel that's it's in their best interest to form a separate association, then I'm sure that's what they'll do. But most of the stuff I've read and heard just sounds like bellyaching and reaching for leverage. (And heck, I like private schools. But if they want to be on their own then certainly, they should do that).

Personally I think the vast majority of the private schools were co existing just fine with the public and other privates. But it got to the point where pretty much all competition was choked out of one class each year leading to some pretty boring football. I've watched the LHSAA struggle for years to come up with a solution to it. Everything they tried failed. This may well fail too. (I think it's much too broad a tool - surgery with a chainsaw or some analogy like that). But looks like they got some attention across classes this time around.

publics don't need gate money from the privates. where did you get that. catch an Amite/Indy, or Lutcher/Hahnville, they bring in just plenty
Same as for most the games in Lafourche. I keep seeing the comment that publics need the privates money. Not where I am standing. I don't know about ED White... but the three 5-A schools here don't usually play privates on a yearly basis. In my three years in school we played Rummel one time. They certainly didn't fill there side of the stadium either. Yet Thibodaux and SLafourche still voted "NO". Might not win state titles often but they aren't afraid of the privates either. And some people are commenting about getting a trophy and yda yda yda. If there is a split and the ''public'' title is tainted as is being stated would not the private be tainted too?

Not in the same way. Would it be diminished? Sure. But the privates are being forced out by the publics. So from that standpoint, the public school are conceding that they can't compete, so their trophy would be cheapened moreso than the private only trophy.

I get what your saying but come one man. Has to be a better way.

If this does happen(the split)... down the road any chance they do a +1 and the Private 5-A champ plays the public 5-A champ?

The public schools needing private schools thing is primarily a New Orleans-Baton Rouge thing.

I know inner-city schools in Shreveport and Lake Charles don't draw flies either, but they lean more on suburban public schools like the Bossier City schools or Sulphur to give them big gates and money.

In Baton Rouge and New Orleans, the only CITY options for a home gate are Catholic schools or Parkview, Curtis, etc.

But, as has been pointed out before, New Orleans and Baton Rouge represent a large chunk of the state's population, so those publics losing that money would have a great impact, even if they are not feeling it at South LaFourche or West Monroe.

With the emergence of travel baseball, has a private school recruited an entire team already?

basically that's what most of the non selects voted for.... banishing them to two classes.

False. Privates, especially in urban areas, bring in gates much, much larger than the publics. There will be a complete hissy fit of epic proportions if the selects ask to be placed in a "selects-only" district

i'll agree with that, the urban public schools. however they will never be relevant anyways. most probably shouldn't even exist.

and if they did have good players, they are already committed to some other private school. and not just privates, Monroe pulled James from Wossman, their best player in school history.

but almost every town is going to put butts in the seat no matter what.

As long as I've been following Lutcher, I don't remember one time a private school brought more fans to us than we bring to them. Lutcher/St. Charles had some goood crowds in the playoffs but St. Charles would have to bring in extra bleachers for the Lutcher fans when we played there. At Redemptorist,Lutcher fans would fill half the home side of the stadium.

The most electric, jammed packed atmosphere I've been to at a high school game was between two public schools - a Lutcher/Amite semi-final a few years back. That was magical.

i get this from the privates:

1) they fund publics from gate money
2) they run better programs
3) develop players
4) the public championships won't count

then why do the privates need the publics so bad? i'd like to hear a response on this one.

Private schools: the sugar daddies of high school football.
