publics don't need gate money from the privates. where did you get that. catch an Amite/Indy, or Lutcher/Hahnville, they bring in just plenty.

From the public schools talking about how they used the gate money to fund their programs.

I'd also like to dispel the private school/public school myth that public schools have no talent and that is why they can't compete with private schools. According to the "LA Natives in the NFL" section of the LHSAA state finals program, 61 athletes were listed from LA schools. Only 12!!!!! were from private schools. And only one from both John Curtis and Evangel. This argument is so biased. The public school coaches must just be lazy or surround themselves with dumb assistants.

He meant other than that.

For every public school from a rural area that has good community support there's a public school inside Baton Rouge where the kids are on Judge Parker's busses from all over creation and draw double digit crowds to their games.

It seems like this is really a rural vs urban debate because even a good bit of the urban public schools want the status to stay the same. Anyone know if the papers have been correct and the privates will file an injunction against the LHSAA to delay the changing of the classes?

I read through this entire freaking thread the other night. A little background, my kids are in band at one of the Catholic League schools, AND I live next door to East Jefferson Stadium. It is positively sad and disheartening to look across the backyard and see, literally a dozen people at some of these public school games.

I remember the days, as a kid, when there'd be 10,000 people jammed in for an West Jeff vs. John Ehret game, or W.J. against E.J. and it really MEANT something.

Now? Grace King only draws about 100 people, East Jeff. a few more, But nothing like the old days. When Archbishop Rummel plays? We can barely drive down our own street with all the people. Can't get a seat on the home side. If it's another Catholic League school, it's incredible, loud, exciting, crowded.

You can't tell me that these publics don't want the money the Catholic League brings from gate receipts. It's the same way when we play N.O. publics at Tad Gormley. We bring 2,000 or so, McD 35 brings 200, and they're a damn good program. O.P. Walker brings a few.

They certainly want our gate. Hell, West Jeff. charged us $11.00 per person this past year, same for John Ehret. We bring 1,500 or so across the river.

It's very different from "rural" schools. I'd love to see it like that here in the City, knowing the history.

The most laughable argument I have heard is the private school enrollments will suffer because parents won't have to pay for private school for their kid to have a chance at a state championship.

As if that id the driving factor behind choosing to pay after tax dollars for your kid's education.

This is most definitely a rural vs urban, have vs have not and white vs black issue except the usual sides are not the normal sides

Poor inner city black charter schools are now attached at the hip with schools like Newman.

Are you trying to tell me that Country Day and OP Walker are serving different levels of the social strata? I refuse to believe it, sir.

"EDW is one of the larger 3A schools...matter of fact there were talks before this whole mess that their numbers were close enough to possibly consider the jump to 4A and join Vandy in their district."

I have kids at EDW, one in sports, and I have never heard this. But, even if true, it still doesn't change the fact that a school with less than 300 boys would be forced to play schools with over 3X that number (over 1000 boys). This obviously doesn't just apply to EDW, but basically to all 3A "select" schools. Crazy, the overwhelming majority of such schools would have no chance to advance.

PBS is much smaller than EDW.. and don't say PBS recruits... because Uhigh has more D1 prospects than PBS does. in the past 6 years PBS has 3 state titles a runner up, a q final and a semifinal.. and in those 6 years 10 college signees...

FOR ALL of the AAA schools playing the 5A and most of the 4A schools is ridiculous in football.

Yes PBS was 3-0 vs 5a playoff teams, but they were pretty banged up and thin after that.

I have been keeping up with all of this since day 1 and I guess I'm ignorant but can someone please tell me why the select schools are upset with the split? Is it a money thing? A competition thing? I seriously don't know.

1) Competing for only 2 Championships. Even if they alter the proposal to make 3 divisions it still leaves a huge disparity in enrollment within a classification. This is worst for the 3A size schools.

2) Basically people don't like being labelled as cheaters.

3) Fear that it will lead to either a true split from LHSAA or that just the 'numbers game' will make playing a schedule of mostly other selects necessary. For many privates in north or central La that presents a big travel problem.

I talked to our coach about it. The current proposal actually probably favors us more than staying in the old system, in all honesty, if playoff advancement is all you look at. Everyone associated with our program is still against the split for the reasons I listed above.

False. Privates, especially in urban areas, bring in gates much, much larger than the publics. There will be a complete hissy fit of epic proportions if the selects ask to be placed in a "selects-only" district
