Looking for a good place to do a date night with the wife next week. We usually go to Kanno but I am looking for somewhere new. Any ideas in the New Orleans area? Thanks in advance

+1 for Sushi Brothers Blacka and Gold roll!

For a date night, the atmosphere at Chiba is great and so is the food. After dinner, walk over to Oak Wine Bar. They have live music sometimes.

BUT...Chiba is very expensive! Their strawberry, satsuma roll is delicious, but it's about 2/3 the size of most rolls and it's $15.50! Their happy hour prices are very cheap though!

This. I crave the oyster shooters over there.

With the SB in town I would avoid Horinoya unless you like cluster fricks.

My parents went to Kakkoii last weekend. Granted they are not foodies but they said they prefer Chiba & Ninjia. I still want to check it out.

I've never had the oyster shooters. I'll have to give it a try!

Horinoya, if you like a serene atmosphere and actual Japanese food rather than fat American style jumbo rolls covered in mayo and eel sauce.

how long before McDonald's starts offering "sushi" on their menu? for every new trendy food option that comes along (fancy coffees, parfaits, salads) the billion dollar fast food corporations find ways to bring the food of the elite to the unscrubbed masses.

Didn't sushi start off as fast food?

I'd say if anything it's Americans who are trying to dress is up as something more than what it is rather than the opposite.

Hmm. Interesting take. I never thought of it that way. What was sushi's original function?

I didn't like Chiba. The artsy chairs with the big knotty log as a chair back was very uncomfortable. The oyster shooters were horrible and the sushi rolls were meh. Plus it was more expensive than other nearby sushi joins.

Hana, Ninja, and Mikimoto are all better.

For a special date night, I second the recommendations of Horinoya on Poydras or Sushi Bros on St. Charles.
