The first 2 days of this need to be looked at in context.

Tiger is T-5 on the South course, by far the more difficult, and plays the North tomorrow.

Yeah, most of the top scores were on the North course today.

Supposed to be raining and windy there tomorrow, scores probably won't be as good.

ETA: Supposed to be raining there all day

Also, all the players will be swapping courses, should be an interesting round.

Mickelson and Fowler need great rounds today just to be around for the weekend.

Tiger playing great at Torrey Pines, water is wet.

He ended with 2 bogeys on the last 3 holes, could have been a really good round.

His short game was solid yesterday though

On a side note, I'm surprised Rory won't be playing more to begin the season, trying to break in the new clubs during competitive rounds

Should be a good day to go low at the NC...Tiger should have a field day...heard he was carrying the driver 290+ yesterday

Yeah they said on the golf channel he was driving the ball 20-30+ yards farther than Fowler and Watney yesterday, pretty crazy. The new swing definitely lets him get it out there

ETA: I know alot of people like to say Tiger's back and all that, but I wouldn't doubt him having a really good year, after his last 2 swing changes it took him 2-3 years to get it to be natural and started playing well.

I guess it just all matters if he can do it in a major.

I agree with all of this, but it has been his short game that has held him back. He was in contention at the US Open and PGA last year and just couldn't get over the hump and make some big putts.

Yeah well in general his game from 125 and in last year was one of the worst on the tour, gets harder to make putts when you are putting from 20+ feet on damn near every hole.

He hit some pretty close yesterday, which was a change, and his bunker play was exceptional.

In his mind, and most fans, if he doesn't win a major the year will be a failure, so we'll just have to see I guess.

ETA: If/when he wins a major, I think he'll finally play more relaxed, last year it seemed like he was pressing too much when it counted.

I want to say it was Azinger who pointed it out? Anyway, he was getting waaaaay too steep on his wedge shots.

No clue, but I knew it would be a problem coming from the awful Haney. P&B and Foley are big into shaft lean and retaining the angle late into the swing. He just keeps fighting his release point and has issues with distance control. He had the same problem with Butch, then he got it in late 99/2000. Granted, he'll never have another year like that, but he will reel off some wins. He had 3 last year and was still inconsistent.
