I am about to buy one of these not sure which one yet. I will be using it for watching movies, playing some online games when I get bored and the casual sports games.

You can obviously do all 3 on both. But if you aren't going to be gaming often I'd consider that you'll have to pay a membership fee for XBOX Live to game online but you won't with a PS3. May not be a big deal to you but it's always something to consider when talking about casual gaming.
Another thing to consider is the PS3 has a Blu Ray player and the 360 doesn't.
You really can't go wrong with either of the two systems but for a lot of people who are casual gamers and want to watch movies the Blu Ray player in the PS3 is the difference.

I use my Xbox much more than my ps3. Probably because that's what all my friends use to play online. The benefit of the ps3 is the bluray and a few console exclusive games. If you already have a Bluray player and aren't too attached to the special games ps3 has, I would go with he Xbox.
Ps -my xbox has never had a problem for over 2 years.

Really? I will have to download it and add it to my Netflix account. I only have it on 2 Xboxes and my phone so still have two devices left to add 
Before I do though...Do you have to be a PS+ user to use it like you have to have a gold Xbox live account?

Not at all.
The interface is just a lot more user friendly IMO. I haven't touched in on the 360 in a while, so maybe they've fixed it, but just fast forwarding and rewinding was a pain. Also browsing sucked. PS3 works like a champ.

Whoever came up with the GUI for Netflix on 360 needs to be fired.
Unless I am a completely missing something, you have to play the show/movie to select a different episode of that season or different season.
