If you have half a heart (and half a brain) you'll love it. Most rednecks won't, and will be disappointed that it isn't all about LSU football.

+1

Bradley doesn't quite spell out his message in black and white, but it would be next to impossible to do so for someone who has never played the game(or any athletics) at anything past the high school level.

I believe thats where a lot of the flack he takes about this book comes from.

It's not a book for Positigers.

false.

I guess Im a positiger and I loved it. Brought me to tears at times. I could feel his love for Coach Mac and for LSU all thru the thing. I can understand some of what he feels from a fan perspective. Attending a game at a certain age was a life changing event. and at another age, it's just a game and doesn't hold the same deep meaning

It is a great book. Most of these negative reviews are coming from pricks who never played sports in their lives. I played alll sports at Sam Barthe and I will say it is a great book. Some say John whines...they do not have a clue as to the love of the game and when it goes away.

Agreed.

I've seen people here bash it, people here praise it.

The bottom line is, you won't be any worse for reading it.

I didn't love it. Actually had to force myself to finish it. I did love the places he mentioned in Baton Rouge since I was born and raised there it reminded me of my child hood. Just didn't like how whiny he was like others have mentioned. Don't get the avoiding phone calls from friends and not going to see people when he told them he would. Spineless at points and needed to grow a pair.

I was kidding, really poking fun at a couple of the posters above implying that you could only enjoy/comprehend the book if you'd played sports, and beyond the HS level. The book is fodder that not many people would pick up if it didn't pertain to LSU. Guess they've never read "The Emperors New Clothes," either.

I enjoyed it, But i agree its more about the transition from a football player to chasing the dream of becomming a writer.

Nah bro. I got the joke. That's why I threw in the trophy joke. I really did have high hopes for the book. Just got tired of the woe is me from John Ed and the non committment to his "girlfriend", etc.

Interesting perspective. Not at all what you're expecting.
