Rolling Stones - Angie

My older sister that was murdered was named Angela, everyone called her Angie. First time I ever heard the song was a pretty freaky thing.

I was up late working on a project and streaming an internet radio station trying to take my mind off the fact that the next day would be the 15th anniversary of when she was killed. The song came on and I felt this overwhelming sense of her presence there with me and of course I was a blubbering mess, it's an eery sad song anyways. After the song was over I looked up to see who it was by, and the clock showed it was a few minutes past midnight.

It gets me every time, I miss her terribly and feel robbed of so much.

Rolling Stones - Angie

I was driving on the freeway last week listening to my favorite Stones mix CD. Angie came on and near the end it got me crying. Not for the first time either.

"Conway Twitty - That's My Job"

I imagine this would be especially moving to fathers with small children. I have a couple of nephews that are 6 years old and 4 years old respectively and this song gets to me when I think of those little guys. It has to tug even harder on the heart strings of a father though.

On that same note:

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years

and....

Cat Stephens - Cats in the Cradle

some of the most heartbreaking and depressing lyrics from any song ever.

Clandestine - "Miner's Lullaby"
I don't know too many people who know Clandestine. I've loved them since I first saw them at The Mucky Duck in Houston about 15 years ago.

Two songs that I can't even listen to they're so damn sad:

Cat's in the Cradle - Harry Chapin
Mr. Bojangles - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (I know Jerry Jeff Walker wrote it, but TNGDB took it to number 1).

Those songs kill me, can't even listen to the opening chords.

I think the best interpretation and performance of this song was by Sammy Davis, Jr.:

Mr. Bojangles - Sammy Davis, Jr. 1989

Eva Cassidy- Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Eva Cassidy - Autumn Leaves

This woman's voice is the most haunting and beautiful ever to me. The fact that she couldn't get a record deal and died tragically young before she or her music was ever discovered just combines to haunt and soothe me simultaneously.

Godspeed by Radney Foster. A beautifully written and played song from a father to his son.

Bruce Springstein - Philadelphia

beautiful music set to the lyrics of a person alone and slowly dying of a deadly disease while no one seems to care.

Eddie Money - I Wanna Go Back

really sad nostalgic song about longing for the days of your youth but knowing you can never go back.

Abide with Me - beautiful hymn and prayer for God's peace and presence in the time of dying.
