for those who hate it, there's some good news...
After 12 years of being referred to as the Charlotte Hornets, they may now start calling the team the New Orleans Hornets

I wonder if Charlotte recognizes the difference between a hornet and a bee.

The NBA is filled with terrible team names/mascots. The Pelicans will be middle of the road at worst.
Nets, Nuggets, Pacers, Heat, Nicks, Thunder, Magic, Suns, Raptors and Wizards are all shite. Lakers and Jazz don't fit the region/area in which they are currently located. If you have a decent logo with nice colors and you win games, people take the team name out from under the microscope and it become socially acceptable (see: Heat, Thunder).

Haha, I'm not sure if it's legal to shoot a pelican. Do they still have any protected status?
