I remember that there was discussion on this. Would enjoy being able to have some debate threads allowed back. Thanks for any information.

I can't see any good that would possibly come from such a board. I CAN see hurt feelings, possible litigation, and maybe even corpses.

Yeah, that could happen. Some of the atheists couldn't resist trolling, posting ignorant memes and not at all participating in the debates. Hopefully that could be regulated.

Thanks for the info.

Quick question, are there any "religious" themed topics allowed? I wouldn't want to break board guidelines.

No way this could possibly work, it would be a blood bath

Religious themed subjects are not allowed.

If a political topic has religious implications (eg abortion, 1st ammendment topics, etc) they are allowed, but will be whacked if they turn into religious flame wars.

As a comparison the R&P board on Texags has over 425K posts

I will say this until I'm blue in the face: I just don't see this happening, and I don't think much admin regulation would be necessary at all.

Trolls need an audience, and the worst of religious trolling usually comes in the form of making fun of religious people talking about religious things in a forum where most people don't give a shite.

If the tables were turned, however, and an entire forum were devoted to religious issues, the trolls would have no oxygen in the form of attention to feed the flames, and the stupid memes would quickly die out. Probably within a week.

Maybe such a board is good for this site, and maybe it isn't, but all this talk about not being able to control hurt feelings when it comes to a board centered around religions, science, and philosophy seems way off base to me.

I suppose I could be wrong, but I really don't think I am.

In closing, it can't possibly be any worse than the Political Talk board is now after the Ron Paul cult hijacked it.

A board like that would be a terrible idea.

And their Tech board has over 385,000 posts...

The Religion/Philosophy board and Tech board at Texags both appear to be two of the more popular non-sports boards.

Interesting that TD has a dedicated place to discuss neither (yet has a dedicated board for music and...soccer).

Damnit all to hell. What in God's name would make you want to have a Religion board? We have the OT.

I blame TheDoc for all of this.

Actually, this is the first time I've really checked out Texags, and I have to say, the boards they offer are categorically sensible and well organized, offering a dedicated place of discussion for nearly every major topic -

It simply makes sense. You have a Health and Fitness board, a Technology board, a Religion and Philosophy board, and music is included on the "Entertainment" board.

I don't really care if TD adds a R&P board. I doubt if I would post there much, if at all. My main concern is keeping the sectarian debates off the OT. I don't understand why Polinesia can't simply be a debate board.

Texags also has a History board, with 30K posts. If TD had one I'd post there, but I doubt if it would get much traffic.

Don't plan an exodus to that site and try to draw off TD posters though. You will be struck down.

Food for thought.

I will bring the topic up again with the higher-up's for a ruling.

I will likely never visit that board again. It's horribly designed.

Their board offerings are superior to TD's, however.

I bitched whined and moaned for a Music Board far more than Doc ever did. Came close to getting banned for it a few times.

And of you try to take our music board, there will be blood.

You lack his overlap in all 4 areas of aggressive atheism, Paulista propaganda, soccer, & music.
