re: Post Office and affects on Black America.

So we are suppose to keep losing billions at the post office just to keep people working?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just close the post office down, and mail all their existing employees a check until they retire?

The Post Office is a great example of how government works, thinks, and reacts to real economic conditions.

Their mission statement use to be a noble one remember;

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Now they replaced that with the need for carriers(and all postal workers)to get a check no matter what.

I can't think of many more times of federal spending that directly employs people, as opposed to spending for "shovel ready jobs"

That is the worst argument against cutting a program. Perhaps our economy would benefit more if these people were producing a better product instead of delivering mail.

It is hilarious.

"These people are receiving a paycheck...you can't cut their job!"

I've been to the post office recently. They really do employ the best and brightest.

This is the mentality of every liberal. And it is why our economy is in the shitter. Spending on entitlements and useless government jobs, because competition by private companies, is much cheaper and economical than government programs, yet the idiots of the left just want to keep paying these people.
Jobs are not finite. Just like wealth. Just because 1 person has a job, doesn't mean another does not. Same with wealth. But by saying that, then you admit that hard work and personal responsibility is the reason you have a job or not, and liberals don't like that.

The black angle is ridiculous, but it is a serious question regarding serious spending cuts.

If govt employees are simply let go, where do they go? Likely on the unemployment, espescially older ones. Is that reason enought to keep them around? Not necessarily, but the total economic impact should be considered. It's important to replace through attrition, just not replacing them when people retire.

The same is true when talking about defense cuts. When BRAC takes place, there is a reason various communities get real worried. If X city loses a base, they're likely totally fricked.

Very little of these cuts or potentail cuts amounts to a hill of beans. They damn automatic spending formulas need to be changed for SS, Medicare, and Medicade or we're all screwed. Everyone knows it, no one will do anything.
