According to the documentary Freakonomics, the aborted unwanted children are the reason the murder rate plummeted suddenly/drastically in the late 90's.

They were never there to kill you.

How can they come to that conclusion when the aborted were never there?

I invent a time machine go 10 years into the future find out you go crazy and murder 20 people and then kill yourself. When I come back I find you and kill you to prevent the killing of 20 people. Even though you had committed no crime I was doing the right thing.

if you think that logic is crazy then the logic that its ok to abort to lower the murder rate is just as crazy

Let freedom ring.

A woman's right to choose what happens to her body is an amazing thing and we should all be happy we allow our fairer gender these choices.

Expect a lot of righteous indignation in response to this.

re: 40 years ago today Abortion became legal in this country

I'm a woman and I'm pro-choice (never been pregnant).

quote:

Reproductive rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights.

what do you base the first part of that statement off of. Has there every been any country in history that in their founding documents reproductive rights have been a part of their government. Did those reproductive rights include abortion. I actually don't know. BTW you have to read something into the constitution to make that argument

quote:

I am 100% for personal responsibility and owning up to your actions. For me, it's not about "murdering babies" or whatever you choose to call it, rather it's about MY rights as a human being guaranteed to me in the Declaration of Independence.

first the Declaration of independence doesn't give anyone rights its the constitution that gives these rights all the DOI did was declare independence from England.

Second nowhere in that statement does it say or even imply that women have reproductive rights.

Actually I could use that statement to argue that the unborn have rights to and therefore abortion should be illegal. If you consider the unborn a human being.

quote:

How dare any old, wealthy, privileged political men, or ANY man for that matter, tell me what I can and can not do with my body. How would you feel if a bunch of women told you what you could and couldn't do with your body? Think about that.

I understand the frustration you are having but its not just about your body. Why is it a double homicide to kill a pregnant women in California? But its legal to abort an unborn baby in that same state.

Don't get so emotional on this stuff lets stick to basic facts basic scientific truths. The unborn is a living organism and comes from two human parents. I don't think any sane human person would deny this fact.

quote:

The GOP thinks that gun owner rights are more important than uterus owner's rights, and that is precisely why that party is a joke.

same as above the thing you are aborting isn't your body.

quote:

The same people who are members of this party, are often times the same people complaining about living in a welfare state. Without legal abortions, there's a damn good chance you'd have millions of others living off your hard work.

not a justification for abortion

quote:

The last thing we need is Crystal the crackhead popping out kid after kid that she can't provide for.

not a justification for abortion

quote:

73% of women who have had abortions claim to be actively affiliated with a religion, so spare me the religious nonsense.

there is a large percentage of people who call themselves Christian but rarely go to Church. Plus why should what a majority of people do change a religions teaching. Christian teaching isn't a democracy so how many people do something should have no impact.

quote:

In a study of women who have had abortions performed, the most common reason for choosing abortion was out of fear of people knowing they are pregnant and/or are sexually active. Notice, it's not because of finances, age, addictions or any of that. According to this study, most abortions are performed out of fear of what others will think.

Link?

and not a justification for abortion

quote:

How fricking sad. Maybe if you religious zealots, and society in general, stop passing judgment on single parent homes or unwed pregnant mothers, abortion rates would drop and maybe even diminish.

I'm with you here I want to help women in crisis pregnancies I don't want to judge them I want them to know that people are there to help them. There to help them raise their child if they want to give up for adoption if they need to.

let me leave it at this

Science makes it clear the fetus isn't a part of a women's body like an arm or leg is. It has different DNA could be a different sex, is a different organism. The quesiton is what is that unborn fetus.

If it isn't human no justification is needed for an abortion
if it is human no justification is sufficient for an abortion

the ultimate question in this debate isn't women's rights, or finances or people being scared, rather its what is the unborn.

re: 40 years ago today Abortion became legal in this country

quote:

Actually, they're telling you what you can do with someone else's body. That's the whole point.

quote:

How would you feel if a bunch of women told you what you could and couldn't do with your body? Think about that.

Thanks to people like you, a bunch of men (aka insurance bean counters) get to tell me what I can and can't do with my own body. Oh, I guess it's OK because they're the same gender.

It's also a hypocritical argument because you've already been born and now you're saying it's OK to kill someone who hasn't. How would you feel if a bunch of people over 40 decided you could be killed with no repercussions?

quote:

Without legal abortions, there's a damn good chance you'd have millions of others living off your hard work.

Makes no sense at all. If someone thinks it's wrong for you to kill a baby for your own convenience, why would a much smaller inconvenience to that person as a taxpayer sway them? In fact, by making that argument, what you are really doing is arguing that abortion is a selfish and immoral act, because you are putting materialism over someone else's life.

quote:

The last thing we need is Crystal the crackhead popping out kid after kid that she can't provide for.

Using racist stereotypes. How enlightened of you.

quote:

Maybe if you religious zealots, and society in general, stop passing judgment on single parent homes or unwed pregnant mothers, abortion rates would drop and maybe even diminish.

You need to get your facts straight. There was a study published in 2008 that showed evangelicals are LESS likely to consider teen pregnancy shameful. Maybe it's people like you that are truly at fault for the social stigma--just look at the condescending attitude you displayed in your post. Or the way the left attacked Bristol Palin.

Maybe we can also try to predict future criminals and summarily execute them. Of course, there will be some innocent people killed, but the ends justify the means, right?
