Is there a large contingent of NFL fans that go to away games?

I know college teams have a large number of fans that travel to away games week in and week out. What is that number in the NFL? I feel like it would be hard to travel to away games regularly on a Sunday and have to be back for work Monday.

it is more important than religion to pro fans.

they make sec fans seem like amateurs.

pro-fans TRAVEL, very well.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. The few away fans you see in the dome outside of divisional games are usually people that live here and happen to like the away team.

Most NFL teams have no problems selling out home games so it's much harder for opposing fans to have a strong contingent in away games like they do in college football, MLB, or other sports. The one exception are the Steelers who always seem to have a ton of their fans taking over opposing stadiums in away games.

I don't see the point of going to an away game for a pro team. I'd rather not get stabbed.

This. They had a commercial for NFL Sunday Ticket once that said something like 50% of NFL fans live outside their favorite team's home market.

That's the result of two factors. Half of Americans live at least 50 miles from where they grew up. So they might have taken their loyalties with them, and they go to the game when their team is in town. The other factor is NFL fans who aren't tied to any one team long term, but root for whoever has the most alumni from their favorite college team.
