Is it a bad idea with regular south la humidity and temp changes?

I don't do it in South GA. It will corrode the casings.

Maybe you could if you put them in a closed plastic ammo box, or even a plastic tote with some silica gel packs.

I would think risky in this climate. Maybe in airtight containers. Use the handwarmers to deoxygenate the containers.

For it to last, keep it inside.
I keep a drop handgun in my truck and the ammo started corroding over time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a good kind of funky tucked out of the way location that I can store some.

Thinking of doing this in case my house gets broken in to. It's a place I don't think thieves would ever find.

I keep all of my ammo, except my hunting ammo, in 50 cal MilSup cases with a silica packet in each. Been doing this for years and no problems so far but they do stay inside.

Is it swaged military ammo? If it use you are fine. If it's not, I'd put it in a dry box. Or if you just want to be safe you should put it in a dry box too. Those food vacuum sealers work pretty good.

If it heats and cools over time it will break down the powder rod. This will result in overpressure.

I was going to say no, but after thinking about it I dont think it's any different than leaving a loaded gun in your car.

This, get an ammo can or something that is sealable and put a couple of those packets in there and you'll be fine..
