His only other offers are from San Diego St. and LA Tech.

Did this guy just completely stay under the radar and impressed LSU coaches at a recent camp or something???

Thoughts???

The coaches loved the year he had as a SR.

I hear he was under the radar before the season, but had a big senior year making everyone take notice. Plus, we need taller receivers

Supposedly his senior year was his first year playing organized football. So no one really had a chance to pick up on him.

He had been a basketball guy and only started playing football as a junior. Had a lackluster year that year. Broke out this year after putting more effort towards being a football player, and not a basketball player playing football. He is a leaper. He highpoints well. He catches the ball away from his body. And he already shows some skill in run blocking.

I think he caught like 17 or 18 TDs this season. He really exploded. And he did it against quality competition.

I watched the videos this morning and I'm guessing that his 40 time is not great and that might put off some schools.

It was really a very detailed process that led to the decision to offer this Wide receiver.

One of the coaches got their hands on a roster and when the coaches looked over it they realized they didn't have anyone named Spears. So, they decided to offer.

Watch their senior films and you make that decision. Spears after one year of football is already on another level than our "projects"

so, basically a project type player like 90% of the recruits that hit campus.

obviously, some kids are more game ready than others but the vast majority need the strength, conditioning, discipline and the technique coaching it takes to make a contribution in the SEC. you're right in assuming his change of course from hoops to pain will probably take time....but some kids are quick learners and hopefully Kevin is one such individual.

get better...faster.

I guess everything I've read about him is inaccurate then. My apologies.

I think it's evident from his development from Jr to Sr year in HS that he is a quick learner and is very coachable. His ceiling is higher than Armand Williams', IMO.

Sooooooo, his senior films, as good as they purportedly are, did not catch the eye and/or attention of ANY other major div I program????

Not bashing on the guy, just strkes me as odd how he came out of nowhere and ultimately ended up at LSU. Would be a great story if he ends up being that, under the radar, completely overlooked player to make it big at LSU!!!

You do realize that based on geography alone it's easier for LSU to find and evaluate this kid than just about every other school in the country, don't you?

No big deal. Most places have been reporting that it's only his first year playing.

Of course I do bro, come on....as with every other recruit in the country, video/film is sent out by high school coaches to universities all over the country. Interested schools/coaches evaluate such video/film and thus the recruiting game begins. Geography has very little to do with this!
