Andrew Jackson.

All other presidents.

I think he would likely duel a few guys from the house at minimum.

Jefferson was without a doubt among our most gifted and (in many ways) enlightened presidents. But this nation (and the world it inhabits) would be as foreign to him as an alien civilization. What makes you think he could effectively govern it?

I disagree. Many of today's problems stem from the same type of bad decisions, political corruption, and bureaucratic infighting that Jefferson not only fought during his Presidency, but actively warned future generations against. I think it's more likely that Jefferson would, after getting over a nice case of culture shock, say to himself, "I told them this would happen."

It would't make a difference who the President was as long as the people are as bigoted and simple minded as we have become in the last 30 years or so. When narcissism became the order of the day we lost any hope of keeping our republic. Having said that Huey P. Long was pretty good at getting people without much of anything at all to vote their pocket books instead of their fear....but of course they weren't worried about cutting back on their cable package or cell phone use or internet provider, they were worried about their children starving to death or succumbing to the elements when they were put out of their homes. When we finally do get desperate like the depression generation was we will insist that politicians of all stripes do what is best for the nation and not just their own careers and pocketbooks.

I agree with everything you said. I would just like for Americans to see their actions, and how very opposite they are to our founders, even those of he whom was instrumental in framing the Constitution, if for no other reason than to place helping coals upon their heads and let them sit there with no excuse for their principle abortions.

In large measure, you have illustrated why until we get these people's minds right, it won't matter who we elect as president today to right this ship in the real world. These politicians today are simply a mirror reflection of a society that has so lost its way, not even giving them the GPS coordinates is going to help them unless they make it up in their minds that they need help and need to make an abrupt change in direction in order to get there.

I would however take great pleasure in watching how they would come to grips with the fact of how they stand in opposition to this country's very core values as it relates to government in their lives. Many on the left would excuse it as "that was then this is now" and somehow we are no longer humans like they were, and have so been transformed into some creature that is not subject to the same laws of big government and authoritarian tyrants as they were. However, I do think many who are not so entrenched in their dogma, just led astray, would be forced to do a self examination of just who they have become and what has become of the very Democrat party that Thomas Jefferson was instrumental in forming.

JFK...only because everybody would adore him as they have all these years, only for him to do an about face after he sees what liberal social policies have created.

JFK was the best GOP we have had other than Reagan.

If he had not won the DEM nomination he would have become a GOP the next go-round.

JFK was tainted by the DEM party, not the other way around.

Most every DEM president has further tainted that once proud party from FDR on down, save JFK.

If JFK had lived, we would be in a much better place today.

[That is why LBJ had him killed <--- my OPINION, no evidence, just the first thought that entered my head when I heard the news on that awful day back in '63. Nothing I have heard since has changed that opinion.]

I can't argue with much of what you said here, but I think you're incorrect (as is the premise of this thread) in your assumption that there's some white knight who can swoop in and "right the ship". A POTUS is powerful, but he very much operates within the contraints of the system his office inhabits. My main criticism against the Ron Paul supporters was that they seemed to believe that he would roll into the WH, slap his junk on the desk, and immediately have the powerful vested interests in Washington (government and others) bow to his will. That's not how things work.

This McThis-erson.

Washington set the bar for elected officials and set it extremely high and the only high bars in DC these days have strippers dancing on them.

Come on, dude. JFK would be conservative by today's dem standards, but he was in no way considered conservative in the 1960s.

Oh, I don't think anyone is going to right the ship. I'm just playing the game and if I had to come up with the best hope to right it, Jefferson is who I would pick.

Of course he was not as conservative as Barry Goldwater. Nobody since James Madison has been that conservative.

BUT - he is the perfect image of what the GOP should be.

And to have THAT as the basis of debate between the two parties would have nothing but a beneficial effect on BOTH parties - and the USA would flourish under such an argument over what is the best way to accomplish a GOOD thing.

Now we have heated battles over how to stop BAD things from being legislated.
