Short-term auto lease?
Posted by lsugradman on 1/19/13 at 4:30 pm00
My family is in need of a new vehicle but we are also possibly moving out of the country in a year or so. Dont want to buy a new or used car and lose tons o money having to turn around and sell it in a year. How would one go about leasing or renting a vehicle knowing it would only be for this sort of timeframe?

Swap-a-lease (swapalease.com). Get a standard manufacturer three-year lease making sure that the lease is transferable. Don't lease anything exotic and keep your payments under $300 a month and you'll have no problem moving it.

Not to hijack but can you elaborate on your decision to move out if the country.
While in the past I thought it was a terrible idea it is becoming more and more attractive.

Work for an O&G company and when you add in the income and tax advantages to the work and life experience benefits its just something I have always wanted to do. Have a young family so will probably only go for a few years, stockpile some cash, travel a bit, then come back to the states before kids are deep into school.
