Anyone ever been? Saw it on Diners,Drive ins,and Dives,so went yesterday. They make their own bread which is wonderfully soft and toasted. Kind of like Texas toast. Fried oysters were solid, not spectacular. Char-broiled oysters were small and full of chunky garlic like the kind you get at the store in a jar. The building,on Magazine hasnt changed much in 90 years and is kind of cool to sit in and eat just for the nostalgia of being there. There is usually a line to get in and it only seats about thirty. Service is extremely slow and somewhat democratic. Overall though,I would say its a must for any local to try just once for the bread alone.

Far better than most, actually, imo. They are not fried in the typical way as most fried oyster places. They don't use a deep fat frier.

Huh?

I have no idea what that means. It's family run and can get very crowded. But everyone wait their turn. And it's not that slow when you consider the crowds and what the servers are covering.

Ate there Thursday night. Raw oysters were huge. Chargrilled and fried were delicious. Fried crab claws were large and delicious. Soft shell crab was perfectly done. Service was fine. It's a no frills busy restaurant with great fried seafood. WTH does "democratic" mean?
