Nailed it.
People are to stuck on roles and labels. Just because Shep is a "WR" doesn't mean he only goes on 10 yard outs, skinny posts, and go routes. In fact, he doesn't even really need a position. He is the type of player that you make a decision to get the ball too on 5-10 touches a game. You can mix it up with a reverse, a few quick screens, a couple of hand offs, a 10 yard out, and a trick play. This would have added a nice wrinkle to the offense. Oregon does this with Thomas. The saints did this with Reggie and Sproles. Florida did it with Harvin.
Just because he is a wr on the depth chart doesn't mean he just absolutely has to be stuck running the route tree.

I think Kelly picks him up late, maybe as a UFA and uses him in a Black Mamba role.

I can see Ford running a 4.46 though. Blue maybe 4.55. Hill also runs around a 4.5, at 230 pounds.
Shep might be faster, but not by much, and those other guys are better running backs, so a slight edge in speed doesn't necesarrily mean better

I think the argument would be that most regular players' YPC wouldn't double by including the Towson game.
In this case, a HUGE part of Russell Shepard's YPC success was due to one run against Towson. That is a fact. And, you could make an argument that it's not representative of the rest of his play. That is why it is relevant.
Having said that, I think Shepard was underutilized. But, he wasn't an 8.8 ypc kind of guy. And, other than a handful of plays that he ran well, he was pretty useless in our passing attack (I'm sure there is blame there that has nothing to do with him).

and his carries pretty much declined every year.

Sort of. He actually got triple more carries this year than last. Most came from his first two years when they were figuring out how to use him. Then Ford, Blue, Ware, Hilliard, and Hill stole the show

Strongly agree. Too bad for him, just like Lee, he got shat upon by the man and the university that they loved and respected. I hope he blows it out of the water so that more national attention is turned on to how miserable our coach is at evaluating and utilizing talent. It will be great for recruiting to continue to get national exposure about how clueless Les Miles is on offense.

Well put sir. If we are going to reduce this discussion to name calling, then I think you're crazy too. Now that that's out of the way and we can discuss facts or opinions and not just take random shots at each other, like your apparent inability to comprehend how to use the quote feature on this website, I'm sure that some would agree that these players didn't get a fair shake, several posters alluded to it in this thread alone about RS. Many, if, not all of people not affiliated with the LSU program know that our offensive scheme is a joke. Only those with their heads securely inside of Les Miles' rectum can't see the futility and ridiculousness of our offense. It's a shame for someone like Shep, who likely would have been an All American if he attended another university with even the most moderately competent of offensive minds calling the plays.

I don't hate Miles. Hell, I don't even want him fired. I'm frustrated with the offensive problems and his stubbornness to address this. Thinking you know better and calling the shots is fine by me if it works, but when it doesn't, you have to try something different. I'm patiently waiting for this to happen. I further stand by my statement. Percy Harvin here under Miles circa 2008-present would likely have been in the same boat is Shep. I don't know much about Percy Harvin before attending UF, but I'd wager he wasn't the #1 recruit in the nation. Luckily for him, he went somewhere that appreciated his talents and used them appropriately.
