Higher Expectations for Pitching Staff This Year?
Posted by Clark W Griswold on 1/18/13 at 10:38 am00
Do you think our pitching staff should be better or deeper this year with Alan Dunn in his 2nd year? I realize you lose your previous ace but I expect Nola to be better and hopefully you get a better Eades and possible McCune can rebound. Add Cotton and a few others and is say it should be better. That's not even taking into consideration the newcomers.
Hitting will be the same I'm afraid. PM going the Miles route there.

No, losing Gausman will not make the rotation better. Eades has some good performances but was inconsistent. Until he gets dominantly consistently, the rotation can't be better than it was with Gausman. McCune is an even bigger wild card.

Says who? Lots of new bats on the roster this year, too early to say anything like this.

Aren't we talking about expectations and we would think will happen?
Obviously it is speculation.
IMO you don't lose a top 5 pick and become better typically.

Expectations are futile. I don't "expect" anything, like a BCS championship or CWS title, like some people do. I just like to watch Tiger sports.
Of course, I'm an old fart and I remember the Jim Smith days.

Jesus, I didn't say I expect us to go undefeated and win the CWS.
This is exactly the type of thread that should be on the Rant. We are discussing personnel for an upcoming season.
I simply don't think our pitching rotation will be as good as it was last year. Not that difficult.

Nola should be lights out. Eades should be solid.
The ? is Sunday.
Bullpen should be pretty strong with Cotton, Rumbelow, Bonvillain and maybe some newcomers.
Lotsa shoulds.

Thank you. Now just because you said that doesn't mean you expect a BCS title or a CWS title.

We SHOULD have 2 first round selections (when they declare) pitching for us on Friday and Saturday night. According to most mock draft predictions, we will have a 1st rounder playing 2B for us as well. with that kind of talent, I expect big things.
With that said, can we get solid pitching from the pen?
Can we have someone step up as a clutch RBI man?
Will we have any consistency out of our Sunday starter?
A lot of questions, but based on the puzzle pieces available, Manieri could build a masterpiece with this bunch..... or he could lose all of the edge pieces, and have it turn out to be a pile of kindling.

I lost track of how to pronounce it. King Hawthorne has brainwashed me.
