If I had to guess yes. It's nothing but a piece of pipe until you attach a gun to it.

My understanding is no, unless you have a pistol lower. Parts for a pistol can be bought for ~$80...

If I am wrong someone will correct me shortly...

Yes! Only parts with a serial number need to be concern of yours. Of course, on the AR that is the receiver. All of the upper, grip, stock, etc. are considered accessories. Order away!

The way I understood it was if you have a pistol lower in the house you're fine as long as the sbr upper is not on the rifle lower but you can't have the sbr upper without a the credentials or a pistol lower.

You can do whatever you want. If you really want the barrel, Id buy it and not assemble the upper until the paperwork for the sbr shows up.

Having the barrel under the same roof as a receiver is fine. Having an SBR upper under the same roof as a nonregistered receiver can be considered "constructive intent".

I am going to go against the grain and say no. I thought that if you had the capability of making a class 3 weapon (SBR, SBS) then it was illegal.

I thought that if you had the barrel in your possession that you must have the pistol lower or a registered lower.

Is it not just a piece of threaded pipe?

I might have misread, so just the barrel and not the entire upper? Might be ok, but for an $80 pistol conversion kit...

I am in the process right now. At the moment I have a finished SBR upper and new, stripped lower. My one AR 15 resides with a friend. I will build this rifle as a pistol and use it as such until my SBR stamp comes through. When it does I'll convert the pistol to a SBR and get my other AR back from my friend.

I really dont know how to answer this without sounding like a dick, but isnt a grenade just some metal and gun powder?

If you own a full auto sear and no lower I believe that you also get yourself in some trouble.

nope. you can own the barrel if you want. A lot of people will order a 14.5" barrel and then permanently attach a muzzle break/flash hider to make it 16". It's only illegal if you put it on a rifle

But if the ATF or FBI came knocking on your door before you welded the muzzle brake to the 14.5" barrel I think you would be shite up a creek.

I am by no means an expert but I have always heard this and just dont want to have an OBer doing 10 years. I know that Landry at Landry's Guns would know. Ill give him a call tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure as long as you don't attach the upper and lower you'll be fine.

Yes. I dint think they'd let you order the barrel if it was illegal

This thread has made it clear that you shouldn't take legal advice on the OB.

ATF used to have an office in BR. Call them.
