the talent we have to surround him now far surpasses what he had when we were the 7 seed.

Really?

David West, Peja, Tyson, etc was a pretty deep and talented team. We have more upper crust talent now, but we don't have depth to make it out of the 1st round.

We also didn't have 2-guard anywhere near Gordon's talent.

He does?

It's no coincidence that Chandler and West had their highest scoring seasons in NOLA with CP3 running the point. With AD's ability to score on the alley oop (Chandler) and knock down the mid range jumper (West), I can't help but think CP3 would have AD flirting with 20ppg if he were running the point.

AD may be better in the next 2 years.

It's very well possible, but we would have trouble resigning anyone with CP's salary on the books.

I wasn't even going to bring him up because I didn't want to get bashed anymore In this thread.

1. He was overrated here

2. CP3 almost certainly hastened his departure

DeeeeeJaaaaayyyy

And not just bc he's from Nola. The guy can play. Hands down. He gets basically zero minutes in Indy an does ok. When he plays significant minutes, he produces. We can't go blow our wad on one of those expensive, never gonna come here players anyway. DJ is 4 years into the league, knows the ropes and is ready to manage a team. Pay for him, let him dish out assists, score when he's open and have money in the bank to resign your cornerstones. That's how you do it.

DJ
EG
Anderson
AD
Lopez

Top 10 draft pick and money in the bank.

Tyson wasn't there...Peja was way over the hill. i'm talking about 2010-2011...

2007-2008 had a lot of talent...but i'm pretty sure paul was happy with that team, and it was pretty damn near an elite team.

DJ is ballin' with his 32% FG% this year. We better snatch him up quick before other teams get to him.

No, it's really not. The guy so far this season has an average of 16.2 minutes per game and in those minutes, he averages 4.5 points and 2.7 assists. Now lets just say he played the entire game..that means he would average 13-14 points and 8 assists per game. It's not off the charts good, but he has the potential to blow up during games if not respected. Now of course thats hypothetical but the whole point of this is that HE ISN'T EXPENSIVE. And he's more of a pass-first point guard with very good vision. I mean don't we want a PG who can find EG and Ryan Anderson in rhythm for knock-down jumpers? Also, I'm pretty sure we're going to want to keep Anthony Davis (expensive), Ryan Anderson (expensive), and whoever else we draft or pick up in free agency.

I'm just posing an argument that saves money and produces at the same time. New Orleans must, at all times, have money in the bank bc players won't come here to take less money. And if we overpay, we'll be right back where we were a few years ago..no money and a great player with zero talent around him who eventually left.

And aren't we still paying Peja? j/j

It won't project proportionally, though. He gets his minutes in scrub time when the defense is weaker. He may be worth a look as a backup, but not for much more than the vet minimum. There is a reason why he's trending toward Europe.

if we could be a 7 seed in 2010-2011, we could easily be a top 5 seed next season with the talent we have now add Paul.
