What is it about LSU that makes them hire coaches who either can't recruit, but can coach, or can't coach, but can recruit?

It's amazing that there are people who apparently don't know that jones is an average coach according to his career. How many times did he win the sun belt conference in 11 tries? Zero. What makes anyone think he can compete with donovan, stallings, haith, etc?

I think Jones can coach. I didn't see any point in that game that calling a timeout was necessary. He has called them when needed. Maybe at some point in the overtime, but even then I can't think of a moment that I really felt like one was necessary.

I think LSU showed progression against a zone defense. They drove to the hoop and did the right things to get open. The biggest problem was execution. We had 22 turnovers. I don't understand why Jones gets called out just because we lose a game, in OT, against a team either on the same level or just under LSU. USC has lost their two SEC games by 2 and 3. They have only 2 other losses all year. They aren't a terrible team.

I really expected a win last night and I am pretty upset about the loss, but I don't blame it on Coach Jones at all.

Won the Sunbelt tourney twice and was in the championship game each of his last 3 years there.

How many times did Haith win the ACC at Miami? How many times did he finish better than 5th in the conference? How many times did he win more than 8 games in the ACC in 7 tries?

You're comparing miami in the acc to unt in the sun belt? Seriously? Winning the sun belt at unt is infinitely easier than winning the acc at miami

Haith never finished better than 5th in the ACC and only had a .500 conference record once.

Hell, he only made the NCAA tourney once.

Does Jones not get credit for winning the sunbelt tourney?

You must have missed the point about the acc being much, much tougher than the sun belt.

So you're ok with lsu, which has one of the largest budgets in the top athletic conference, having a coach whose career highlight is 4 good sun belt tourney finishes? No regular season championships, no signature tourney wins, no regular appearances in the sweet 16. That's what is called incommensurate. It's a clear sign of lack of support for basketball from the ad.

No I didn't miss that point. You must have missed my point how Haith had very little success in the ACC. Is it impossible to have any success in the ACC now? A great coach like Haith can only make it to the NCAA once while in such a great conference, yet Johnny Jones in the lowly sunbelt has made it twice?

Hate to break it to you, but LSU is not currently a power house basketball school which can attract elite coaches. Jones wasn't LSU's first option but that doesn't mean he can't be successful here, just look at Haith.

Also Haith has 1 more tourney win that Jones, 0 sweet 16 appearances, no signature tourney wins, yet you consider him an elite coach...

1. Haith has been a finalist for the naismith award because people recognize the difficulty in how well he did at miami. Jones, not so much.
2. I don't know why you're focusing on haith. Jones probably can't compete with any of the coaches in the top tier of the conference.
3. Lsu will not break into the top tier until it starts hiring better coaches. Coaches that win 2 tourney games regularly. My point is it takes commitment commensurate with lsu's budget. Failure to make such a commitment is on the ad.
4. I fully acknowledge that jones could potentially be the greatest bball coach in the history of the game. But you have to admit he is an incredibly disappointing hire.

That disappointment went away as soon as Jarell Martin signed his LOI.

Every big name ever associated with LSU Basketball endorsed this hire. They know more than you do. Go away.

Also, if you can't understand that success is relative to where you are, you are a complete dumbass. Miami gets better recruits than North Texas simply by being Miami, regardless of who the coach is.

Why would I admit to something as asinine as that? The only coach I would want that we had a realistic shot at would be John Beilein, IMO the best coach not named izzo or K.

Haith sucks for the record and Missouri will not remain a top team. Haith better count his lucky stars Mike Anderson left him loaded and he still shite the bed in the tourney!

Did anyone hear Rudy Maclin on the Jordy Hultberg show yesterday. Had extremely high praise for Jarell Martin.

that didn't erase it. Lsu could have and should have done much better. Coaches who actually win tourney games regulary. Jones can make a bad decision good by winning on the court. So far, he's living up to his resume.

because jones' resume is very unimpressive especially compared to lsu's budget, facilities and conference

Haith sucks for the record
if haith sucks then jones super sucks. Haith did pretty well at miami. As i said, i'm not focusing on haith. He's merely one of the better coaches in the conference who seems significantly more competant than jones. Maybe jones will improve but, it's not likely

Who would you have hired? Who was interested for that matter? Certainly not Amaker or Dixon and Shaka Smart laughed it off before it even became a rumor.

Again, you say "infinitely better" and disregard the fact that Haith has a record conference record worse than Johnny Jones, and has only managed to make the tournament once pre-Missouri. And even with his 14-4 conference team last year, he still got knocked out in Round one AS A TWO SEED. How is that not a let massive let down? And spare me the "Norfolk State" state because they were dismantled by an "elite" coach the very next round.

Your entire campaign is basically "Haith is an infinitely better coach because thats what I think". Got it.

i bet we could come up with a list of at least 5 mid major coaches who have better resumes who lsu could effectively double their salaries, much less coaches in major conferences who lsu should be able to hire. It's purely a lack of effort by the ad. There is absolutely no excuse for ms state or vandy to be consistently as good or better than lsu in basketball based on the relative budgets of the schools.

i couldn't care less about haith. My point is that there is nothing about jones' resume that suggests he can compete with the best teams in the confetence not named kentucky. But it's typical for people here to misrepresent someone's argument, oversimplify and misdirect like focusing on haith-jones comparisons

No one is simplifying shite. You are the one talking about Jones "average" resume and failing to cite who was interested and better, and the only support you have are your personal feelings.
