Are you guys able to get birds to work this late in the season? I don't know why I bother bringing my duck calls with me anymore.

Blow sparingly...pull most of your decoys...realize they probably won't work well unless your wind and light conditions are near perfect.

If you do, buy the one with a remote control. That way you can turn it off as not to flair the ducks when they get close.

The whistle is your friend above all others late in the season. I do a wigeon-like call that makes them at least circle the dekes for a shot.

And like others have already said; less is more.

I'll have to let a few quacks then. My feed call is shite and does more harm than good

Just do small clucks I guess you'd call it. None of the chatter sound like a train shite. Just chit...chit chit chit...chit chit or something like that

the hunt i made a couple weekends ago we only killed ducks when we didn't pick up a call. when we did, the ducks flared...we over did it, and it showed

Grey ducks still responding good to our calls. Mallards not so much. When we see mallards we drop our calls most of them been giving us a few shots right outside the dekes. Main thing for us is a downsized decoy spread and lots of fresh brush.

Good advice in here. I would also suggest you shoot 3.5 inch #2's if your gun will shoot 'em.

I've had my best luck my last couple of hunts with a single hen decoy on a jerk string and just throwing out a quack every once in a while. Less is definitely more

That depends on where you're hunting. If you're coaxing flight ducks down from their annual migration, it's best to let em know you're there. And stay on em till you throw the flaps.

nothing to do with it.
Obv if you sould like a fricking bullfrog more than a duck you killing yourself.. but this time of yr the less you can blow the better.

Calling ducks IMO is overrated.
Ive called before and felt like a champ... other times they fricking scatter.

You cant beat being where the ducks want to be.
Ive been fortunate to be on some hunts that were second to none.
Ive had 500 mallards and pintails like a tornado 10-20-30-40 feet over my head.. we were almost paralyzed...It was a site to see.

Seems like its been long time since Ive seen ducks like that.. anywhere.
We just sont have them the way we used to 10-15 years ago.
