This is the first album I bought myself... Late 70's, but it had already been out a few years at this point... Began my deep passion for rock and roll...

There were a few other like Black Flag's "Damaged", REMs "Murmur" & The Replacements "Sorry Ma..."

First cassette I bought was Judas Priest's "Defenders of the Faith," and I loved it. I was in control of the music on my Walkman. It was very empowering.

the first time i listened to the white album, it really spooked me, just a really heavy moment for some reason.

For two obviously very different reasons these albums had a huge impact on my music listening at an early age:

Discovered Metallica with a lot of people when I bought the Black album on cassette. Delved deeper in their discography and soon realized they were without question the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Ride The Lightning to me embodies what is right about metal. The song structure, the lyrics and the solos on here are phenomenal.

Every song on this album gets me. I know all the words on this album. Crosby, Stills and Nash were already huge but adding Neil Young just put them over the top for me. If the album just had the song "Helpless" on it that would still make it a classic. Add on to that; Woodstock, Deja Vu, Carry On, Our House... and you have sonic nirvana for me.

Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold as Love

This was the first album that listened to when I first started listening to music on my own and developing my own tastes. I listened to it nearly every day from beginning to end for about a year when I was 13.

Leo Kottke - Ice Water

I came across this album while going through my Dad's old vinyl collection. The song Pamela Brown just really touched me. I will never forget the moment that the needle touched the record.

Concrete Blonde saved me from pop music. That and New Order. Concrete Blonde Concrete Blonde and New Order Brotherhood both came out when I was in 7th grade and I've listened to EDM and bands with female vocalists ever since. Lyrically - Johnette Napolitano doesn't get the due she deserves.

ETA:

Depeche Mode Music For the Masses cemented what Brotherhood started on that part of the path.

Some fans have said that Neil Young hurt the group similar to McDonald did when he joined THE DOOBIES. Not me though. Neil brings that raspiness that the others in the group do not have.

I was listening to a bunch of junk until I heard a track of the first album of Molly Hatchet called "Dream's I'll Never See". Still love Southern Rock more than any other rock to this day. Also, I was turned on to a dance/R n B tune, Firecracker by Mass Production. I ended up parlaying my passion for dance music into some DJ gigs in clubs back in the day(extra money to supplement my full time crappy job).
