Just seeing this after a day of walking around Disney and all I can say is...of course...it's Matt Cooke...that's who he is.

The NHL didn't suspend him for effectively ending Marc Savard's career either. So at least they are consistent. I'm not surprised they won't discipline a guy they just held up as an example of how the system works.

Cooke has now injured Ovechkin, Lecavalier, and Karlsson. That means he has now knocked out a Calder, Richard, Clancy, Lindsay, Hart, Ross, and Norris Trophy winners. All of the Conn Smyhte winners should be nervous. It's the last one he needs to complete the set. But don't worry. All of those were accidents, too.

Then they certainly aren't going to for a clean play! Damn right.

Love me some Matt Cooke!

Hearing that the Ottawa D man that sucker punched Cooke in the face (missed mostly) late in the game will be suspended.

All I know is if this was the old NHL...the one that Baloo hates so much, Matt Cookies would be fearing for his life after suffering a decent beating. I remember that time Ulf got tuned up by Domi and the time Wendel Clark sorted Marty McFly after he was head hunting...I like the Pens, but Cookies' got a nasty rep...

I love the old NHL. It's the late 90s to early 00s Dead Puck Era I hate. If Cooke had done this in the 80s, he'd be killed in every arena he played in.

I already referenced the Domi-Ulf beatdown. That was 1995. Pre-Dead Puck Era.

Cooke is a grade A douchebag who needs to get the F out of the NHL.

He wasn't trying to slice his achilles but he was trying to take his legs out from under him. Just another example of Cooke's long history of "unfortunate accidents".

That was definitely a dirty-arse hit / stomp by Cooke. You look at that play in slow motion & watch Cooke’s head look down to know exactly where he is stomping his left skate onto the back of Karlsson’s lower leg! (You are blind UtlimateTroll!) His history of illegal hits & plays speaks for itself. & I can’t believe there will not be a meeting with Shanny! The April 22nd game should be very interesting & Crosby better grow eyes in the back of his precious squash for that game!

And nothing dirty about that play either, freak incident that happens in hockey

Haha keep telling yourself that. He had absolutely no reason to be coming in with his skate up like that. He knew he was beat and took matters into his own hands...or foot.

I'm more in this camp than the "Cooke intentionally stomped on Karlsson" camp. Though, given Cooke's history, I have no problem with people who believe that. Cooke is a vile scumbag.

But I think he was trying to slewfoot him and it just went horribly awry. Which is why I've been calling it reckless, not intentional. I don't think Cooke set out to injure the guy... he just didn't care if he did. But Cooke already used the "it was an accident" excuse when he pretty much ended Savard's career. And he used it when he popped Lecavalier in the head. Neither hit got a suspension.

Matt Cooke... almost went 23 whole months without ruining someone's career. Good thing players were locked out for six of those.

ok i've watched the video a few more times and i don't think it was intentional...he's still a nasty bit of work but it seems to just be a 'hockey play...he's looking the other way in fact...

yeah, but he didn't really need to be coming in like that though.

What's ironic is I have a lot of friends that live in Ottawa from my 5 years in Canada. All the Senators fans I know are very big fans of Matt Carkner and Zenon Konapka - live by the sword and die by the sword.

His skate didn't need to be maybe that high, but when you're locked into someone going into the boards you lift your skate up for leverage to shove them into the boards and pin them.

I have no problem with lifting the skate up, if you look closely Karlsson lifts his non plant skate up as well, just not as high because he was losing his balance going into the board.

People can think it's intentional all they want, NHL has already said there was nothing wrong with it and that it was just a freak accident and that is all that matters.

ESPN's Pierre Lebrun and Scott Burnside both said it wasn't intentional and was simply an accident, so whoever you were listening to doesn't know much hockey when the head NHL ESPN guys said there was nothing wrong with it.

Move on.

Caps up 4-1. Canes win puts them at 17 points and they are beginning to run away with the division, though I think they'll come back to earth. Still, they are building a nice cushion. If the Caps hold on, they've pulled back in the divisional race. TB at 13, Jets and Caps both at 11.

Still a long way to go, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel. But the Caps have to beat some good teams.
